Despite playing at home, the Dutch club still failed to gain points against Aston Villa. This defeat was also Feyenoord's second consecutive defeat in European competition, leaving them second to last in the Europa League standings after two matches, just above Malmo.

Right before the match against Aston Villa, coach Van Persie had to face criticism from the Dutch media after the 0-2 loss to Braga in the opening match. The press of this country raised big questions when he used a team that was considered "weakening itself", with up to 7 changes compared to the main squad in the domestic league.

The Algemeen Dagblad newspaper called this “a scandalous defeat”, even saying that coach Van Persie “deprived the fans of victory” and “caused damage to the club’s budget”. Commentator Hugo Borst also harshly criticized: “Many fans spent money and time to come to Portugal. They deserve to see the strongest squad. It is an injustice”.

Feyenoord's performance in the Europa League is in complete contrast to their performance in the domestic league. After 7 rounds, Van Persie's team has won 6 convincing victories, thereby leading the Eredivisie rankings with 3 points more than PSV.

Dutch football fans expect Van Persie and his students to improve their performance in the Europa League soon. Feyenoord's next opponent is Panathinaikos on October 23.

2 goals in the Arsenal - Man City match On the night of September 21, Arsenal and Man City drew 1-1 in round 5 of the Premier League at Emirates Stadium.
