Coach Philippe Aw has announced the official list of 20 players of U22 Singapore to participate in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32). The tournament will officially start on April 29 and U22 Singapore will have their opening match against U22 Thailand at 4:00 p.m. on April 30.
After the match against Thailand, the Singapore U22 team will meet the Vietnam U22 team at 7:00 p.m. on May 3.
Singapore U22's number 1 striker, IIhan Fandi, has not yet recovered from his knee injury to participate in the 32nd SEA Games (Photo: FAS).
Notably, at SEA Games 32, number one striker Ilhan Fandi was not called up to the "Young Lions" squad.
It is known that IIhan Fandi unfortunately suffered a knee ligament injury during a friendly match with Maldives in December last year, right before the AFF Cup 2022. Due to having to play on an artificial turf that was too hard and slippery, IIhan Fandi suffered a knee injury and it took him 9 months to recover. Therefore, up to now, the number 1 striker of U22 Singapore has not been able to return to the field.
The absence of Ilhan Fandi is considered a big loss for U22 Singapore as he is the most experienced striker among the "Young Lions" attending the 32nd SEA Games. The 20-year-old striker has contributed 17 goals in 33 appearances for U22 Singapore.
Ilhan Fandi is the third son of football legend Fandi Ahmad. Notably, Ilha's two older brothers, Ikhsan Fandi and Irfan Fandi, are both talented football players of the island nation.
Without Ilhan Fandi in the attack of U22 Singapore at SEA Games 32, coach Philippe Aw will likely put his trust in some potential strikers who participated in SEA Games 31 in Vietnam such as: Harhys Stewart, Jordan Emaviwe or Jared Gallagher.
