In fact, this type of fraud has been going on for a long time, and many banks have issued regular warnings to their customers. However, with extremely flexible and increasingly sophisticated fraud methods, many customers still become victims, providing personal information and even OTP codes for fraudsters to perform loan/withdrawal services and appropriate assets.
Taking advantage of customers' trust and lack of vigilance, the subjects impersonated credit staff to support card services, proactively contacted through many forms. Created links similar to bank websites, asked customers to enter information and provide OTP, thereby successfully appropriating money.
Recently, Ms. Thuy in Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City encountered a situation where she had just received a credit card from the bank after successfully registering on the app but had not yet activated the physical card. Then, a number of landlines similar to the bank's hotline number continuously called and claimed to be the bank's card support staff to help her activate the card and receive the annual interest-free incentive.
The subject sent a friend request through a social networking application, quickly sent information and asked Ms. Thuy to fill in the link to activate the card. Suspecting signs of fraud, Ms. Thuy quickly contacted the bank via the hotline on the official website and was confirmed that this was a case of impersonating a bank employee for illegal profit. The subject also quickly discovered and blocked Ms. Thuy immediately after.
To ensure customer rights, OCB has quickly and continuously issued many warnings.
The common feature of these scams is that the subjects often contact customers by mobile phone or landline numbers that are similar to the bank's switchboard number. Next, they impersonate bank employees, make friends with customers on social networking applications, provide advice on withdrawing money from credit cards, upgrading card levels or some other services related to card products.
During the consultation process, the above subjects will ask customers to scan QR codes, take photos of the front and back of their ID cards/CCCDs, take photos of their faces or access fake websites/applications designed by the scammers so that customers can provide card information, OTP numbers or bank account information...
Immediately after the customer provides information, the subject will proceed to appropriate the customer's card/bank account to appropriate property.
Faced with the above problem, a series of banks have issued warning signals, calling on customers to be vigilant against fake fraudsters, which not only negatively affects the reputation of banks but also brings unpredictable consequences, affecting the rights and interests of customers and people.
Specifically, at Orient Commercial Bank (OCB), the following recommendations have been quickly and continuously issued: Do not lend your card to others, do not save card information on your phone or any device; Do not share card information on social networks to avoid being exploited by bad guys, appropriating assets; Do not provide confidential information such as: Card information, account login information and OTP number or any information related to the card to anyone, in any form, including bank employees. Absolutely do not scan QR codes or access strange links and do not take pictures of your face, ID card/CCCD on unofficial links of OCB.
In case the account owner has followed the instructions of the scammer or suspects that the card information has been leaked, the card must be immediately locked via the OCB OMNI digital banking application or contact the hotline 18006678 or block strange calls (eg: access the link khongquangcao.ais.gov.vn, ... or call the network operator) to avoid being disturbed and contact the authorities or the bank for support.
In addition to the above recommendations, OCB also issued a notice affirming that the bank does not provide customer information to outside parties, and does not provide services such as credit card withdrawal consultation, card limit increase, etc.
