Comrade Luong Khanh Thien was born on October 13, 1903 in Me Thuong village, Me Trang commune, Me Trang canton, Thanh Liem district (now Me Thuong residential group, Liem Chinh ward, Phu Ly city, Ha Nam province).

With his intelligence and sensitive soul, his childhood was closely linked to his homeland and the poor working class, he understood the hardships and humiliation of the people who lost their country. It was the family circumstances and miserable lives of the people that soon ignited in comrade Luong Khanh Thien the spirit of independence, compassion, hatred for oppressors and exploiters to the utmost and the will to overthrow imperialism and feudalism, to gain independence and freedom for the nation.

In 1923, he left his hometown for Hai Phong city and applied to study at Hai Phong Technical School. Here, he actively participated in patriotic student movements. A notable activity was that at the end of 1925, comrade Luong Khanh Thien, along with comrade Hoang Quoc Viet and Luu Ba Ky, led a group of students from the Technical School to block the car of French Governor General Va-ren from Do Son to Cau Rao, and submitted a petition demanding that the French colonial government release the patriot Phan Boi Chau, causing a great stir in public opinion.

In 1926, comrade Luong Khanh Thien returned to Nam Dinh to work as a mechanic at the Yarn Factory. In 1927, he was admitted to the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association of Nam Dinh Province, which was a step towards maturity and revolutionary enlightenment for him. During his time as a worker at the Yarn Factory (Nam Dinh), then the Silk Factory, and the Chai Factory in Hai Phong, he actively propagated, enlightened, and mobilized workers to fight for workers' rights, developed the Association, and implemented the "proletarianization" policy of the Northern Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association...

In April 1929, he was admitted to the Party, becoming one of the first four members of the Hai Phong City Communist Party Cell led by comrade Nguyen Duc Canh. From here, his revolutionary life entered a new phase, becoming a true revolutionary.

With the spirit of self-study and practice, comrade Luong Khanh Thien became a capable and prestigious leader of the Party. The Party trusted him and assigned him many key positions. In September 1936, after being released, he returned from Con Dao and established contact with the Party. At the end of 1936, at a location in Gia Lam, comrade Luong Khanh Thien, together with comrades: Truong Chinh, Hoang Quoc Viet, To Hieu, Nguyen Van Cu, Nguyen Van Minh... secretly established the Initiative Committee, essentially re-establishing the Bac Ky Regional Party Committee.

He was captured by the enemy three times in 1929, 1938, 1941, imprisoned in Hai Phong prison, Hoa Lo prison, exiled to Con Dao; seduced, bribed, and brutally tortured by the enemy, but he always endured, maintaining the qualities of a loyal communist. Unable to subdue his steel spirit, the French imperial court sentenced him and sent him to be shot at 4:30 a.m. on September 1, 1941, at the foot of Ang Son mountain, An Lao district, Kien An province (now Truong Son town, An Lao district, Hai Phong city).

Until the last minute of his life, he still maintained the integrity of a communist, loyal to the Party, and had absolute faith in the inevitable victory of the revolution.

In March 1937, comrade Luong Khanh Thien was appointed as the provisional Secretary of the Northern Regional Party Committee - concurrently Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee. In his position as Secretary of the Regional Party Committee, he directed the restoration of grassroots organizations, the building of the Party's revolutionary forces in the North, operating in a new way: secretly, semi-publicly and openly, legally; from direct struggle to demanding democratic and people's livelihood reforms... contributing significantly to the Party's victory in the democratic struggle movement of the years 1936 - 1939.

From September 1939, he was assigned to direct the construction of the secret base of the Reserve Zone of the Provincial Party Committee in Phu Tho province. In the districts of Cam Khe, Lam Thao, Phu Ninh, Thanh Ba, Yen Lap, he directed the establishment of 3 out of the first 4 Party cells of Phu Tho province under the direct leadership of the Provincial Party Committee; he chaired the establishment of the Provisional Executive Committee of Phu Tho province.

In October 1940, he was assigned to be the Secretary of Inter-province B, including the provinces of Hai Phong, Quang Yen, Hon Gai, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, and part of Kien An province; directly in charge of the Hai Phong Party Committee. Taking on the new task, at a time when the revolutionary movement in Hai Phong and Inter-province B was facing many difficulties due to the enemy's increased terror, arrest of cadres, and many bases being broken, he was still clever and flexible in outwitting the enemy in the role of a herbalist, lime seller, electrician, etc.

He directed the construction of Hai Duong area as a solid base for the Inter-province. Under his leadership, the revolutionary movement in Hai Phong and Inter-province B had positive and clear changes.

In early 1941, while going to grasp the situation of the workers' movement, he fell into the hands of the enemy in Thuong Ly. With his strong will and revolutionary spirit, he could not overcome the steadfast communist in the face of all the enemy's torture. The enemy brought him to a military court, sentenced him to death and imprisoned him in Hoa Lo Prison.

In the death row cell of Hoa Lo Prison, comrade Luong Khanh Thien spent a lot of time training and fostering the prisoners to continue to improve their political skills and abilities to continue the revolutionary cause. According to the memoirs of comrade Hoang Cuong, who participated in the activities and was a cellmate of comrade Luong Khanh Thien: “At midnight on September 1, ie 2:00 a.m. on September 2, 1941, the buffalo-headed horse-faced gang broke into the death row cell, handcuffed comrade Thien and took him to be shot in Kien An.

At that time, I was shocked, quickly informed comrade Tran Cung, who was also in the Hoa Lo Prison Leadership Board with me, and dragged along a number of comrades, political prisoners nearby, to the door with iron bars. Comrade Thien shouted the slogan: Long live the Indochinese Communist Party! Long live the success of the Vietnamese Revolution! Then comrade Thien saluted together: Hello comrades. Comrade Tran Cung, I and a number of comrades shouted loudly: Down with French colonialism! The spirit of Luong Khanh Thien is immortal! At the foot of Ang Son Mountain (Kien An), before sacrificing himself, he looked straight at the enemy: "If you want to kill me, then kill me, but victory will definitely belong to my Party" and shouted: "Long live the Indochinese Communist Party! Long live the success of the Vietnamese Revolution!".

The 120th anniversary of Comrade Luong Khanh Thien's birth is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude and honor his indomitable fighting spirit, heroic sacrifice and great contributions to the Vietnamese revolutionary cause. Through that, we continue to foster and educate patriotism, revolutionary traditions and the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" among all classes of people, especially the younger generation. This is also an opportunity for us to follow the shining example of the spirit of dedication and sacrifice of Comrade Luong Khanh Thien.
