5.2 magnitude earthquake strikes off Indonesia

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that on the morning of March 30, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Aceh province, western Indonesia.

According to BMKG, the earthquake occurred at 9:58 a.m. (local time) with a focal depth of 12 km, about 16 km northeast of Banda Aceh city. Previously, this agency recorded an initial magnitude of 5.4.

Mr. Daryono, head of the BMKG's earthquake and tsunami monitoring department, said the tremors were felt in Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar Regency, Takengon, Pidie Regency, Pidie Jaya Regency and Sabang. However, no tsunami warning was issued.

Indonesia lies on the " Pacific Ring of Fire", an area of ​​strong geological activity that regularly experiences earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
