At 82, Mr. Boranga has not hung up his gloves yet. |
Boranga started his career in 1961, playing over 100 Serie A games for teams like Fiorentina, Parma and Cesena. At Parma, Boranga played alongside the promising youngster Carlo Ancelotti, who would go on to become one of the world's greatest coaches.
After more than six decades, Boranga has not left the game. His debut match for Trevana against Foligno ended in a 10-0 defeat, but that cannot overshadow the extraordinary story. He was substituted after conceding five goals, but admitted: "I made two mistakes, but also three or four good saves."
At 82, Boranga still has quick reflexes, rushing out to close the angle like a professional goalkeeper. Footage from the match shows that he still lives every move, proving his ageless passion.
Boranga first retired in 1993 while playing for Bastardo, before returning to the field in 2009 with Ammeto. He continued to play for Papiano until 2015, then returned once more with Marottese after a three-year break.
Between the goodbyes and returns, Boranga managed to graduate from university with a degree in medicine and work as a sports doctor for Bastardo FC, where he both looked after the players and played as a goalkeeper.

Mr. Boranga (middle) also participates in athletics. |
Not only is Boranga an extraordinary "goalkeeper", he is also an athletics record holder. In 2012, he set the world record in the M70 triple jump (for athletes over 70) with a result of 10.75 m, while also holding the M65 long jump record (5.47 m). This month, he has also registered to compete in the European Masters Athletics Championships in Madeira, competing in the high jump at the age of 82.
When asked about age, Boranga smiled and mentioned Luka Modric, now 40 and still playing for AC Milan: "You can't measure Modric's age when you see him play. The age when people start to think you're old is different now. At 50, you can still be young, just in a different way."
Perhaps it is this concept that has kept Boranga's fighting spirit youthful for the past 6 decades. In the modern football world, where 35 is considered to be on the other side of the hill, the 82-year-old man has become a symbol of longevity.
