Dang Van Hoa (1791 - 1856), also known as Le Trai, was one of the first people to pass the imperial examinations under the Nguyen dynasty in Hue and was a "four-dynasty veteran" who served under the emperors Gia Long, Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, and Tu Duc for nearly 40 years.

In the imperial court, there were six ministries, and he successively held the position of Minister of five of them: the Ministry of War, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Rites.

He was also known by the names Dang Van Chieu and Dang Van Thiem, belonging to the Dang family in Phu Vang commune, Hue City. His ancestors originally settled in Hien Sy village, Phong Thai ward; later they migrated to Bac Vong Dong village, Dan Dien commune and resided in his maternal hometown of Thanh Luong village, Kim Tra ward today.

Throughout his career, he held many important positions both within the court and in the provinces, leaving a lasting mark in the fields of politics , economics, military, culture, education, and society.

At the scientific conference "Le Trai Dang Van Hoa - Life and Career," delegates focused on discussing various topics, further affirming the historical role and position of Le Trai Dang Van Hoa in the construction and development of the country in the first half of the 19th century under the Nguyen dynasty.

Previously, in September 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 3243/QD-BVHTTDL classifying the tomb of Dang Van Hoa in Phong Thai ward, Hue City, as a national historical site.

It is known that from 2022 to the present, descendants of the Dang family have contributed nearly 800 million VND to renovate the tomb of Le Trai Dang Van Hoa, upgrade the garden, erect a commemorative plaque, and demarcate a protected area for the historical site.
