The memoir “Family, Friends and Country” recreates the life of outstanding diplomat Nguyen Thi Binh

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, real name Nguyen Thi Chau Sa, was born on May 26, 1927, in Quang Nam province, in a family with a revolutionary tradition. Since her school days, Nguyen Thi Chau Sa has participated in patriotic activities in student movements. During the resistance wars against France and the US, she was active and was arrested and imprisoned many times.

In 1960, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was established. In early 1961, she was assigned by the Unification Committee to participate in diplomatic activities for the Front and changed her name from Yen Sa (the alias she had used since 1948) to Nguyen Thi Binh to keep it secret and to make it easier for the international community to pronounce her name.

From here, the world learned about female politician Nguyen Thi Binh as Head of the delegation of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, then the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam participating in the Four-Party Conference on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam in Paris (France).

On January 27, 1973, in Paris, the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam was signed. It was the result of the longest and most arduous diplomatic struggle in the history of Vietnamese diplomacy, with 202 public meetings and 24 private meetings over a period of 4 years and 9 months. During the negotiation process, the whole world admired and respected the steadfast will, flexibility and acumen of the excellent female diplomat Nguyen Thi Binh.

With 98 years of age, 79 years of Party membership, and having held many different positions, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh has made many important contributions to the nation's revolutionary cause, and is a shining example for the younger generation to follow.

In order to recreate the life of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh, a living witness who participated in and witnessed the ups and downs of the nation's history in the 20th century, from her childhood to her participation in revolutionary activities, the important milestones in the struggle for national independence and even after her retirement, the National Political Publishing House Truth published the second edition of the memoir "Family, Friends and Country".

This is a memoir written by Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh since 2007, completed at the end of 2009 and supplemented and edited through the years 2013, 2014, 2023. Each page of the memoir is expressed in simple, profound language, exuding patriotism, sense of responsibility, heart for the country and the people, creating weight in each word.
