(GLO)- The cultural and spiritual life of ethnic minorities in the province has been given new vitality by Project 6 "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development".
Project 6 belongs to the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 Period. From the capital of this project, Ia Rtô commune (Ayun Pa town) was granted a set of Arap gongs by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Mr. Ksor Mang - Cultural and Social Officer of Ia Rto commune - said: After being given the gong set, he and the elderly taught the younger generation many ancient gong songs, restoring the traditional values associated with gongs.

Many Bahnar and Jrai villages that are “white” of gongs are also motivated to restore and promote cultural values from Project 6. In 2023, 18 sets of traditional gongs and improved gongs will be presented to ethnic minority villages and clubs to encourage the Bahnar and Jrai communities to preserve and create the values of gong heritage.
In addition, the community's "living human treasures" are also encouraged to pass on valuable cultural knowledge. In 2023, the province has 4 outstanding artisans (2 Bahnar, 2 Jrai) receiving support of 52 million VND/person from this project. This is both to honor outstanding artisans in the work of preserving and promoting heritage values in the community, and to encourage them to have more creative activities in passing on culture to the next generation.
Gong tuner Alip (Groi Wet village, Glar commune, Dak Doa district) is one of the four people who received support. He not only imparts knowledge about gong tuning but also opens many classes to teach gong playing to young people. In addition, he also devotes himself to teaching the younger generation how to find materials, create and play traditional music on bamboo gongs - a traditional musical instrument of the Bahnar people - along with magnificent gong sets made of metal.
This support also motivates artisans to make more efforts in transmitting cultural heritage. A typical example is Meritorious Artisan Ro Cham Tih (Ia Der Commune, Ia Grai District) who has turned his stilt house into a place to teach the younger generation how to make and use traditional musical instruments. The sweet fruit of this heritage transmission is clearly seen through many cultural events. Most recently, a group of young artisans from Ia Der Commune won the A prize for the entire group at the Lullaby, Folk Song and Traditional Musical Instrument Performance Festival in the whole province.
Previously, this same Jrai artist group had an impressive “debut” in the first episode of the program “Gia Lai Cultural Colors – Preservation and Development” organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism at Dai Doan Ket Square (Pleiku City). Artist Ro Cham Tih not only taught knowledge about ethnic music but also transmitted his spirit, enthusiasm and love for culture to the younger generation.
In 2024, from the capital of Project 6, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to support 5 outstanding ethnic minority artisans to propagate and popularize traditional cultural activities and train, foster and teach their successors.
These “living human treasures” have participated in teaching 50 students from the Bahnar and Jrai ethnic groups in the province various forms of art such as weaving, weaving, folk singing, sculpture, etc. If we compare artisans to “museums filled with precious books”, then supporting them in passing on their cultural heritage is like opening more doors for more people to access valuable knowledge.

After 3 years of implementing the work of preserving and promoting the good values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has implemented many activities and models that have created their own mark, suitable to the practical life and desires of the people.
Among them, the most prominent are the programs “Weekend Gongs - Enjoy and Experience” and “Gia Lai Cultural Colors - Preservation and Development”. The programs are not only meaningful to the community that directly benefits from the project but also bring unique cultural experiences to the local tourism picture.
In addition, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also carries out many activities such as preserving traditional festivals in localities; exploiting and building products to serve tourism development. Supporting outstanding ethnic minority artisans in transmitting, popularizing and teaching traditional culture in the community.
Support funding for the construction of folk cultural clubs in ethnic minority villages. Support the dissemination and promotion of typical traditional cultural values and tourist attractions in ethnic minority areas. At the same time, survey the potential and select and build typical tourism products to support the community in developing the economy from cultural resources.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Nhung - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - said: The goal of Project 6 is to preserve and promote the good values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development. Therefore, we focus the project's resources on ethnic minority communities. From this "support", the cultural owners continue to preserve and promote the culture of the nation in a natural and sustainable way.
