New drivers for infrastructure and growth.

Today, December 19th, marks the 79th anniversary of the National Resistance Day, and hundreds of large-scale projects and constructions will be simultaneously inaugurated and commenced nationwide. Currently, 234 projects and constructions are eligible for these ceremonies. Of these, 148 projects will commence construction, while 86 will be inaugurated and opened to traffic.

The total investment for projects and works is over 3.4 million billion VND (of which state capital for 96 projects is over 627,000 billion VND, accounting for 18% of the total investment, and 138 projects with other capital sources account for over 2.79 million billion VND, accounting for 82%).

This groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony, held simultaneously at 79 locations nationwide, was a rare event, linked to major goals of infrastructure development, public investment disbursement, and celebrating important political events, especially the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Beyond its ceremonial significance, December 19th also sent a clear message: investment for development continues to be identified as a pillar for promoting economic growth.

Choosing a unified time to launch a series of major projects demonstrates a strong determination to accelerate the preparation and implementation of investments. In Hanoi , transportation and urban renovation projects along the Red River – a strategic development area of the capital – are expected to create a new landscape, transportation, and service axis, contributing to the efficient utilization of riverside land and improving urban connectivity.

In the South, Long Thanh International Airport – the country's largest aviation infrastructure project – continues to enter crucial implementation phases, playing a key role as an international air gateway, boosting logistics, tourism , and regional supply chains. Alongside this are numerous expressway, national highway, industrial park, and social housing projects in localities such as Central Vietnam, the Central Highlands, and the Mekong Delta.

The widespread allocation of projects demonstrates a development mindset that is not solely focused on large cities, but also aims for regional connectivity and balanced development. All projects are expected to create a new impetus for investment and development, expand growth opportunities, and spread momentum for the economy to enter a new phase.

However, simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies also mean immense pressure to implement them. In reality, many projects that were launched with great fanfare have subsequently fallen behind schedule, required adjustments to their total investment, or even been delayed for years. Therefore, what society is concerned about is not just the number of projects launched on a single day, but what happens afterward: how land clearance is handled, whether progress is maintained, and whether the individual responsibilities of each party are clearly defined.

In the context of the government's policy of expanding public investment and increasing the proportion of development investment spending to create growth momentum, the need for investment discipline is becoming even more urgent. Large investments, if not accompanied by good management, can easily lead to dispersion, cost overruns, and reduced spillover effects. Conversely, when projects are selected correctly, implemented on schedule, and aligned with the overall plan, they will be important "seed capital" to attract private investment and social resources.

The groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies on December 19th took place in a context where the economy needed new impetus after a challenging period. Boosting infrastructure investment is a suitable choice, but the ultimate effectiveness depends on how it is implemented. The enthusiasm of the groundbreaking ceremony needs to be transformed into disciplined execution, unwavering responsibility, and measurable results. When the projects are completed on time, operate efficiently, and create clear socio-economic value, then December 19th will truly become a milestone in development.
