Revenue over 24,000 billion VND/year
According to statistics from the Hanoi Rural Development Department, the city currently has 327 craft villages and traditional craft villages in 24/30 districts, towns and cities recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee. Hanoi currently has 47 out of 52 traditional crafts nationwide.
In recent years, craft villages in Hanoi have developed relatively stably. The total revenue of 327 craft villages recognized by the City People's Committee is estimated at over VND24,000 billion.
Some craft villages with high revenue include: La Phu confectionery and knitting village (Hoai Duc district) reaching over 1,300 billion VND; Phung Xa mechanical farming tool village (Thach That district) reaching 1,200 billion VND; Thiet Ung traditional handicraft village (Dong Anh district) reaching 1,100 billion VND...
Deputy Head of the Hanoi Rural Development Department Ha Tien Nghi said that products from craft villages are increasingly diverse in types, beautiful in design, and of good quality; some have competitive strengths in the domestic and international markets.
“Craft villages have been actively contributing to the restructuring and development of the rural economy, creating the premise for the successful implementation of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, helping many communes complete the targets of Program No. 04-CTr/TU of the Hanoi Party Committee…” - Mr. Ha Tien Nghi added.

Expectations from the Master Plan
In addition to many achievements, the work of preserving and developing craft villages in Hanoi in recent times has revealed some shortcomings, limitations, and unsustainable development. Designs, packaging, and labels have not yet met consumer tastes, especially handicraft products.
Quality management and product traceability have not yet met the new situation. Environmental pollution in some craft villages is becoming increasingly serious. Many traditional craft villages are at risk of disappearing; workers’ incomes are still unstable…
Based on practical requirements and creating a premise for sustainable development of craft villages, recently, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen signed and issued Decision No. 282/KH-UBND approving the "Overall project for developing craft villages in Hanoi for the period 2025 - 2030, with a vision to 2050".
According to Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai, in recent years, the city has issued many mechanisms and policies to support the preservation and development of craft villages. However, the support contents are still small and integrated into general policies, making the exploitation of craft village values still limited.
Therefore, the newly approved Project will be a lever, playing an important and urgent role, contributing to the effective implementation of the Party and State's policies and socio-economic development programs, while contributing to the preservation of traditional culture, job creation, and income improvement for workers in craft villages, craft villages, and traditional craft villages in Hanoi.
“In the coming time, we will develop a plan to organize the implementation of the Project. In particular, we will prioritize the implementation of 5 main content groups and 8 tasks mentioned in the Project, ensuring completion on schedule, with quality, efficiency, and achieving the specific goals set out…” - Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai added.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Craft Village and Handicraft Association Ha Thi Vinh said that the approval of the "Overall Project for Craft Village Development in the 2025-2030 period, with a vision to 2050" continues to affirm the city's great interest in the craft village sector.
“The approval of the Project is of great significance and good news for Hanoi’s craft villages. We hope that in the coming time, the implementation will be specified by each agency, unit, and organization. Authorities at all levels will have a firm grasp of the Project to implement it, creating the best support conditions for participating economic sectors…” - Ms. Ha Thi Vinh expected.
The overall project for developing craft villages in Hanoi sets the goal: In the period of 2025 - 2030, Hanoi will restore and preserve at least 5 traditional crafts and craft villages at risk of fading away; recognize at least 10 new crafts and 25 traditional craft villages; develop at least 3 craft villages associated with tourism , and form 10 craft village and experience tours.
By 2050 , Hanoi will restore and preserve at least 10 traditional occupations and craft villages that are at risk of being lost; recognize 10 new occupations and 20 or more traditional craft villages. At the same time, develop at least 20 craft villages associated with tourism, form 20 craft village tourism tours, experience...
