After directly surveying the landslide scene, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Tran Tri Quang said that, through preliminary assessment, this landslide area is near a whirlpool and when the water flows "strafes" straight into the shore, it causes landslides.
The province has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to have specialized units survey and re-evaluate this landslide section, compare it with previously collected data to determine the exact cause of the landslide. From there, propose to the Provincial People's Committee an immediate emergency treatment plan to stabilize the lives of people in the affected area and propose a long-term solution.
The Provincial People's Committee also directed the Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee to urgently mobilize people to evacuate to safe places and support costs for people to relocate.
Chairman of Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee Bui Quoc Nam said that immediately after the landslide occurred, the Ward People's Committee directed functional agencies to support people in evacuating assets and belongings and mobilized some households in the vicinity, in areas with high risk of landslides to raise vigilance and proactively respond.
At the same time, the locality mobilized businesses and philanthropists to promptly support affected households (VND 10 million/household). In the coming time, the Ward People's Committee will study policy solutions according to legal regulations to provide the best support for households affected by landslides, helping them to soon stabilize their lives.
Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document directing the provincial departments, branches, sectors and Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee to urgently implement measures to handle landslides on the Tien River bank at Group 1, Tan Tich Hamlet (Cao Lanh Ward). Accordingly, the Chairman of Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee urgently directed specialized agencies to closely monitor the landslide situation, put up ropes, put up warning signs in dangerous areas, and make announcements on the Ward Broadcasting Station so that people in the area can proactively take precautions.
Localities dispatch forces to stand guard and prevent people from moving into landslide areas; coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to review and determine landslide belts and areas of potential high-risk landslides; mobilize people to evacuate to safe places (especially households near river banks near landslide areas) to absolutely protect people's lives and property; mobilize and arrange militia and youth volunteer forces to be ready to support and rescue when there are dangerous landslide situations; organize and implement temporary reinforcement solutions to prevent further landslides.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment shall preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to urgently conduct surveys and assess the landslide situation and the level of natural disasters, advise the Provincial People's Committee to decide on the necessary measures to be applied immediately to minimize landslide damage in accordance with the law on natural disaster prevention and control and current legal regulations, and submit them to the Provincial People's Committee before September 23, 2025; urgently study and advise the Provincial People's Committee to report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the recent landslides on river banks, canals and streams in the province.
At the same time, assess the causes of impacts, risks of insecurity, propose solutions to handle and proactively respond as a basis for recommending the central budget to support localities in handling and overcoming, and submit to the Provincial People's Committee before September 30, 2025.
The Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Military Command to monitor and continuously update the landslide situation and proactively coordinate with local forces to be ready to deploy rescue when an emergency situation arises to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. Dong Thap Provincial Project Management Board and the Construction Investment Project Management Board of Area 1 directed contractors working near the landslide area to be ready to mobilize human resources, materials, and equipment to participate and support in handling and overcoming emergency situations that may arise at the request of competent authorities and specialized agencies.
Previously, at about 1:00 a.m. on September 20, 2025, a landslide occurred on the bank of the Tien River, in group 1, Tan Tich hamlet, Cao Lanh ward, with a length of about 100m, going about 20m inland; causing 7 houses to collapse into the Tien River, with estimated damage of over 2 billion VND.
