On November 30th, the National Assembly passed a Resolution advocating for the continued implementation of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, while also authorizing research into nuclear power development programs.
This information was provided by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan at the regular government press conference on the afternoon of December 7th.

According to Mr. Tan, institutional issues related to nuclear power are gradually being perfected, and the amended Electricity Law, recently passed by the National Assembly , already includes provisions on nuclear power development.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has also advised the Government and the Prime Minister to establish a Steering Committee for the construction of nuclear power plants and a Task Force to continue launching the nuclear power program in Vietnam.
In order to expedite the implementation of the nuclear power project in Ninh Thuan, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will soon submit to the competent authorities proposals for adjustments, amendments, and additions to the Power Development Plan VIII. This is a fundamental legal basis for concretizing the policies of the National Assembly and the Central Government.
"We will also propose to the competent authorities to select an investor to implement the nuclear power plant. Selecting an investor is a very important step, from research and proposal to construction and operation of the power plant," Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated.
At the press conference, Mr. Tan also stated that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested the leaders of Ninh Thuan province to study and promptly create conditions for the project to be implemented on a clean site. At the same time, it is crucial to gain the consensus of local people to ensure the project is implemented as smoothly as possible.
Regarding some challenges in project implementation, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade stated that selecting technology to ensure safety is a major issue. In addition, it is necessary to carefully study the recommendations of international organizations, and especially the recommendations of international atomic energy agencies.
"We are fully confident that with cautious steps and current advanced technology, efficiency and safety will continue to improve," the leader of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized.
Regarding the determination of the total investment amount, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said it depends on many factors. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has a preliminary estimate, which is not yet precise, but it will certainly be in the billions of dollars. "It also depends on the scale, location, technological requirements, and safety requirements," Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said.
With the implementation of this project, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated that it will create a clean, fundamental energy source, meeting the current dual standards in the trend of developing green and renewable energy.
Furthermore, there will be a safe energy source to serve socio-economic development, not only in Ninh Thuan but also in the surrounding areas and to meet national needs. In the future, with the strong development of renewable and clean green energy, we may even aim for exports.
Furthermore, the project will create momentum for us to have a high-tech and scientific foundation, especially in atomic energy science, to develop the country.
