This is Turkey's first driverless metro project and also China's first driverless metro project with a maximum speed of 120 km/h carried out abroad, Global Times reported on June 9.

In the new project, Chinese company CRRC will cooperate with 13 Turkish companies to build the first 60 trains. The trains are expected to operate on the Istanbul Airport Metro line and can carry up to 1,100 passengers.

The train uses the GoA4 fully automatic operation system - the highest level of automation, eliminating the driver's cockpit and can complete the operations of starting, stopping, picking up passengers and maintenance automatically, meeting the requirements of many unmanned operating situations.

The train is designed for high efficiency, fast speed and comfortable operation. In addition, the newly developed traction control system can also adapt well to local climbing requirements.

The Istanbul Airport Metro is the first high-speed metro line in Türkiye and is a major transport link between the airport and the city centre, carrying an average of 800,000 passengers per day. The introduction of driverless high-speed metro technology will greatly benefit local people's travel.

According to Li Yangyang, general manager of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive, a subsidiary of CRRC, the company is committed to cooperating with Turkish companies on the principle of mutual benefit in the process of procurement, production, operation and maintenance. The localization rate of the train production project reached 60%, creating more than 200 jobs, contributing to the development of the local rail transport industry.
