Vietnam is an increasingly attractive destination for tourists around the world . In 2024, there will be about 17.5 million international visitors to the S-shaped land, an increase of 39.5% compared to 2023. Coming from many different cultures, they enjoy and receive good values from Vietnam, spread it to five continents and also bring the beauty of their country.
It can be said that one of the most wonderful things about international tourism is the process of exchanging and spreading human values. Therefore, Vietnamese people always open their arms and hearts to welcome friends from all over the world with the most openness, friendliness and sincerity.
However, besides the civilized and friendly tourists, recently there have been many foreign visitors to Vietnam who behave uncivilized and disregard the law. They are reckless, aggressive, vulgar, arrogant, attack the locals, and even beat up the authorities.
For example, on July 11, in Hanoi , 2 Korean female tourists A drunk man attacked two Vietnamese girls at a photobooth because he was impatient to wait for his turn to take pictures. The victim was hospitalized with serious head injuries.
Previously, on August 7, a Russian youth A drunk driver collided with another motorbike at the intersection of Tran Phu - Tue Tinh (in Nha Trang ward, Khanh Hoa province), leading to a fight. Traffic police Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Tung Giang, who was on patrol, discovered the incident and immediately intervened, but unexpectedly the Russian youth swung his fist, causing him to bleed from the mouth. The police immediately subdued the man and handed him over to Nha Trang ward police for handling.
Clause 1, Article 12 of the 2017 Law on Tourism of our country stipulates that tourists are obliged to comply with Vietnamese laws. These cases that have occurred continuously in a short period of time once again raise the need to improve the quality of foreign tourist management.
Not only the law but also the local culture needs to be respected by guests. In cases where Western guests wear offensive clothes Going to historical sites... not only has a negative impact on the image of Vietnam tourism but also hurts feelings, making many Vietnamese people feel offended.
We need to let international guests understand that friendliness does not mean being easygoing. The hospitality of the Vietnamese people and country does not mean accepting any disrespectful behavior towards the host.
I spent some time researching the regulations that foreign tourists need to be aware of when coming to Vietnam and learned that in 2017, the General Department of Tourism issued a Code of Conduct for Civilized Tourism, applicable to both domestic and international visitors, including recommendations on appropriate attire, maintaining public hygiene, respecting the law, customs and practices, and protecting the environment. However, to date, this code of conduct has not yet been officially translated into English. Thus, foreigners will have few opportunities to access it.
In addition to disseminating the standard code of conduct for foreign visitors printed in the most popular languages, the management sector should require travel agencies and international guest reception units to be responsible for disseminating it as well as basic legal regulations so that they are aware of prohibited behaviors and standards when visiting and staying; and require visitors to sign a commitment to comply before entering the country.
We need to help tourists understand that Vietnam is a hospitable and welcoming country, but does not accept and welcome those who disregard the law and insult local culture and customs. If tourists still deliberately violate, strong enough sanctions are needed to protect a safe and civilized tourism environment. That is the respect for Vietnam and civilized international guests.
The slogan of Vietnam tourism industry in 2025 is "Vietnam - Endless beauty". Beauty here refers not only to the scenery, but also to the beauty of people, culture and history. All beauty is only for those who know how to appreciate it.
