According to Dailymail, the unnamed Swiss tourist ordered Catalan-style lobster with pasta when dining at the luxurious seafood restaurant Gente di Mare, in Golfo Aranci, Sardinia, Italy with her husband.
But when the live lobster was brought to the couple's table, the restaurant staff couldn't believe their eyes when the female tourist dropped it back into the water before the chefs could cook it.
Antonio Fasolino, who co-owns the restaurant with his brother Gianluca and witnessed the bizarre moment, said: “At first I thought she was joking. Then I understood that this woman was serious and wanted to do a good deed. Seeing her joy and excitement, I was also touched. She was very happy and moved to be able to fulfill this wish and we were happy for her too.”
Recounting the details of that strange night, Antonio said he remembered taking the lobster out of the tank before weighing it in the kitchen.
He then told the couple that it weighed almost two kilograms and cost around 200 euros.
The shrimp was then placed in a transparent bucket and placed next to the couple's table.
But instead of waiting for the upcoming meal, the woman asked if the lobster would 'get hurt' if she dropped it from above.
She then gently released the lobster over the restaurant railing. As soon as it hit the water, the lobster quickly swam to freedom.
In a related development, a rare blue lobster was found by a fisherman in the southern waters of England and later released back into the wild. Experts at the National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow said the odds of catching such a rare crustacean were around one in two million.
The giant lobster, believed to be around 80 years old, was first caught in 2021 off the south Wales coast.
The largest lobster ever caught in UK waters weighed 9.07kg off Fowey, Cornwall in 1931.
