Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the central provinces have launched a series of new tourism programs and products, as well as organized many attractive activities and events to stimulate demand and attract tourists.
Many tourist spots in Hanoi are bustling.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, during the three-day New Year's holiday in 2024, an estimated 402,000 tourists visited Hanoi, a 65% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, international tourists accounted for an estimated 72,000, a 2.1-fold increase, while domestic tourists numbered an estimated 330,000, a 59% increase. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at nearly 1,500 billion VND, a 73% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
At tourist destinations, historical sites, museums, parks, ecological zones, and resorts in the area, the number of visitors increased sharply. The Hoan Kiem Lake tourist site - its vicinity and the Hanoi Old Quarter - welcomed approximately 150,000 visitors; Hanoi Zoo welcomed 24,653 visitors; Hoa Lo Prison historical site welcomed 6,090 visitors; Van Mieu National University historical site welcomed 15,500 visitors; Thang Long Imperial Citadel historical site welcomed 9,098 visitors; the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology welcomed nearly 4,500 visitors; and Ba Vi National Park welcomed nearly 4,800 visitors…

During the three-day Tet holiday, the average occupancy rate for hotels was estimated at around 60% (of which, domestic guests accounted for approximately 35.3%; international guests accounted for approximately 24.7%); an increase of 7.8% compared to the same period in 2023.
Some 4-5 star hotels and apartments, as well as homestays and resorts in the Old Quarter and suburbs, have high occupancy rates, such as: Capella at 90%; Lacasa Hotel at approximately 90%; Grand Vista Hanoi at 76.4%; Lasieta at 85%; Flower Garden at 84%; Conifer at 73%; Pullman at 67.25%; Wyndham at 57%; Sunway Hanoi at 74%; JW Marriott at 71.4%; Novotel Thai Ha at 60%...
At shopping malls, restaurants, and entertainment centers, visitor numbers and purchasing power increased significantly, with estimated revenue growth of approximately 16% compared to the same period in 2023. According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, to achieve good revenue and attract a large number of visitors during the New Year holiday, tourist attractions launched many new tourism programs and products, as well as organized many attractive activities and events to stimulate demand and attract tourists.
According to Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, to ensure safe and high-quality tourism activities during Tet (Lunar New Year), the department has established an inspection team to rectify shortcomings in tourism businesses and address behaviors such as harassment, soliciting, price gouging, and extortion at tourist destinations.
Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 1.65 million visitors.
On January 1st, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, in coordination with Vietnam Airlines , Vietjet, and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, organized a ceremony to welcome the first group of tourists to Ho Chi Minh City in early 2024 at the international terminal of Tan Son Nhat Airport.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, this activity showcases the city's friendly and hospitable culture to visitors from near and far; it also marks the beginning of new breakthroughs for the tourism industry in the new year.
The first groups of visitors to the city on New Year's Day were treated to calligraphy demonstrations, folk art performances using coconut leaves, clay figurines, performances of traditional musical instruments by artisans, and the tradition of picking lucky branches for the spring season.
Regarding activities to attract tourists during the 2024 New Year holiday, travel businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have continued to implement over 100 attractive and diverse tourism products associated with the characteristics of Thu Duc City and its 21 districts and communes.
In particular, the Department of Tourism, in coordination with the People's Committee of Can Gio District, organized the announcement of the second phase of the Thieng Lieng community tourism destination, contributing to improving the quality of service experiences at this destination.
According to statistics, the number of visitors to tourist attractions and entertainment venues in the city during the New Year holiday was estimated at approximately 1.65 million, an increase of 3.1% compared to the same period last year. Of these, the number of international visitors to the city was estimated at approximately 46,528, an increase of 86.1%.
The number of overnight visitors reached approximately 225,700, an increase of 5%; the occupancy rate is estimated at around 87%. Tourism revenue is estimated at approximately 6,400 billion VND, an increase of 7.7%.
Quang Nam welcomes 91,000 international visitors.
In the central region, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said that during the 2024 New Year holiday, the number of tourists visiting and staying in Quang Nam increased sharply compared to last year.
Specifically, in the three days from December 30, 2023 to January 1, 2024, the total number of tourists visiting and staying in Quang Nam province is estimated at 103,000, an increase of 130% compared to the same period in 2023. Of these, international tourists are estimated at 91,000, an increase of 169% compared to the same period in 2023, and domestic tourists are estimated at 12,000, an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2023.
The occupancy rate for 4-5 star hotels is around 80%-90% in areas near and within the Old Quarter, while accommodations further from the city center and near the beach have lower occupancy rates.
Meanwhile, due to unfavorable weather conditions, some tourist areas and attractions in the province received very few visitors during this period, such as the Cu Lao Cham Biosphere Reserve and the Phu Ninh Lake Ecotourism Area…
According to Mr. Hong, during this New Year's holiday, Hoi An City - Quang Nam province organized a series of attractive activities, offering many experiences and connecting people and tourists from all over the world to visit and travel in Hoi An, such as: the announcement ceremony "Hoi An joins the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2023"; the "Hoi An Welcomes the New Year 2024" gala; folk dance performances and exchanges, Hoi An Youth - Countdown Party 2024… attracting a large number of tourists.
Kien Giang aims to welcome 9.2 million tourists.
According to the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, to date, the province has attracted 317 investment projects in the tourism sector, covering an area of 9,663 hectares, with a total investment capital of nearly 372,500 billion VND. Most of these are concentrated in Phu Quoc City, with 274 projects, covering an area of 9,395 hectares, and a total investment of over 367,700 billion VND. The province currently has 950 accommodation establishments with 33,595 rooms.
In 2023, Kien Giang province received over 8.5 million tourists, a 15.3% increase compared to the same period. International visitors totaled over 573,000, a 203.3% increase. Total tourism revenue reached over 17,400 billion VND, a 65.1% increase.
In 2024, Kien Giang province's tourism industry aims to welcome 9.2 million visitors; of which, an estimated 680,000 are international tourists. Total revenue is estimated at 20,000 billion VND. The total number of accommodation establishments is estimated at 970, with 34,000 rooms...
Mr. Nguyen Luu Trung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, said that the Provincial People's Committee is preparing to submit to the Government for approval the "Project to develop Phu Quoc into a high-quality tourism center, ecotourism center, and national and international-level marine and island tourism center". At the same time, the province will promote and strengthen international tourism development linkages and cooperation. It will also strengthen state management of tourism, review and rectify business activities related to tourism accommodation, travel services, tour guides, and tourist areas/sites in the province in 2024.
