Health tourism is on the rise.

According to a report by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the global health tourism market is projected to reach approximately US$895 billion in 2024, and US$978 billion in 2025. This represents a growth rate of 9.3%, considered significantly higher than many other tourism segments. GWI also notes that the Asia-Pacific region is emerging as the fastest-growing region in the world, with growth rates ranging from 8.9% to 13.2% annually in health tourism.

Data from Future Market Insights estimates that Vietnam's total tourism revenue in 2025 could reach approximately US$25.7 billion, with wellness tourism being a segment experiencing impressive growth at a rate of 9-12% per year. Simultaneously, on online platforms, searches for keywords related to spas and wellness resorts in Vietnam increased by 175% in the first half of 2025 – the highest in Southeast Asia. The Asia-Pacific region, especially Vietnam, is considered a suitable location for developing diverse wellness tourism experiences. This is because Vietnam not only has a high safety index but also a diverse ecosystem ideal for relaxation in a natural environment. Ecotourism and rural agriculture are also strengths of Vietnam, perfectly suited to the conditions of peaceful spaces and clean environments that promote positive physical and mental health recovery and treatment.

According to forecasts by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), global tourists are increasingly favoring environmentally friendly forms of tourism such as community tourism, wellness tourism, and tourism focused on health and beauty needs. UNWTO predicts that by 2030, tourists traveling for visiting, health, or religious purposes will account for 31% of the total number of tourists. The growth rate of the health tourism market has continued steadily since the COVID-19 pandemic, and health tourism experiences are becoming increasingly diverse.

Accordingly, health tourism is no longer limited to spa services, massage, yoga, mineral baths, and mud baths, but is transforming towards more in-depth, personalized treatments, integrating diverse therapies from physical and psychological to spiritual well-being. Specifically, there are solutions like "forest bathing" – a therapy that connects with the natural environment; or relaxing in a nature-friendly environment combined with nutritious meals, workshops for physical and mental training, and art…

In line with the wellness tourism trend, Can Tho offers a variety of wellness experiences combining relaxation and health care, such as yoga, herbal spa treatments, nutritional menus; rowing boats, stand-up paddleboarding, and cycling to explore the countryside in a lush green natural environment.
