"To achieve this goal, the German Federal Government sent a frigate to the Indo- Pacific in 2021, and again, in 2024, will deploy maritime capabilities to the region, this time with a frigate and a supply ship," Pistorius said, according to official information from the German Defense Ministry.

The statement came amid rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea. However, Mr. Pistorius said the deployment was not aimed at any particular country.
In 2021, for the first time in 20 years, Germany sent a warship to the South China Sea, according to Reuters. Germany called the move a sign of its increased military presence along with other Western countries in the region.
