On February 29, the Quang Binh Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case against defendant Truong Thi Lan Anh (35 years old, residing in Bac Nghia Ward, Dong Hoi City) for the crime of fraud and appropriation of property.

Previously, Truong Thi Lan Anh was sentenced to 16 years in prison by the High People's Court in Da Nang City for fraud and appropriation of property. However, because the defendant has a young child, the execution of the sentence was temporarily suspended, and she was released on bail, only prohibited from leaving her place of residence.

Taking advantage of the suspension of her sentence, from January 2022 to March 2023, Lan Anh continued to commit fraud by creating a facade of wealth and extensive connections to gain the trust of victims, receiving money in exchange for securing jobs or transfers within state agencies.

Using the above tactics, Lan Anh defrauded more than 3 billion VND from 9 people in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces .

At the trial, the defendant Lan Anh confessed to all acts of fraud and appropriation of property. The court sentenced defendant Truong Thi Lan Anh to 16 years in prison, in addition to her previous sentence, for a total of 32 years in prison.
