At the 2025 high school graduation exam site held at Thanh Xuan Secondary School ( Hanoi ), a male student attracted attention when he entered the exam room with an injured hand that had to be bandaged. More importantly, the injured hand that had to be bandaged was his right hand - the hand used to write and, in this case, to take the exam.

Sharing with VietNamNet , Nguyen Anh Duc, a student of class 12A12 at Khuong Dinh High School (Hanoi) said that a week before the exam, he unfortunately had an accident due to broken glass in the bathroom of his house. The unexpected accident caused him to have a severed tendon in his wrist, causing a lot of bleeding. With a cut about 2cm long, after a few stitches, he had to wear a cast to immobilize the wrist joint so that the tendon could recover. After asking his homeroom teacher about his case, he would not be eligible for support, Duc was still determined to take the exam.
The male student said that with his injured hand, he can still write, but more slowly than usual.
Duc shared that with this “out of the blue” incident, he will have the most difficulty with the Literature exam, because it is in essay format. However, Duc said that fortunately, Literature is only the subject that he takes to get a score for high school graduation, not a subject in the admission group that he is aiming for.
“Fortunately, I only need to pass the failing score in Literature to graduate, and I don’t need a very high score, because I intend to apply for university with the A group. I think I just need to try to write enough 5 points to be fine. The remaining subjects are multiple choice, so I don’t need to show clear and beautiful handwriting in the test,” Duc said.

With other multiple choice subjects, Duc believes that his test-taking speed will definitely be a bit slower, including writing and other operations such as typing on the calculator, drawing, etc. "I know that it is a disadvantage, but when something unfortunate happens, I have to try my best, there is no other way. In life, any situation can happen," the male student said calmly.
Duc shared that his parents seemed more worried than him. “My parents always encourage me to try my best, no matter what score I get, they will support me and be proud,” Duc said.
In this situation, Duc said he would have to use both hands flexibly. “My right hand is injured and still hurts, and with the cast on, I won’t be able to press the button quickly, so I plan to use my left hand to do it. In the past few days, I have also practiced this with my non-dominant hand,” Duc said.
The male student said he also practiced writing with his injured hand. In necessary situations, in multiple-choice subjects, he would use his left hand to write out the draft steps.

Despite his injury and many limitations and inconveniences, the male student still set a target score of 9 or higher in Math; 8.5 or higher in Physics and at least 8 points in English. Duc hopes to be admitted to the majors of the University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
“This year is the first high school graduation exam under the new general education program. There are not many documents, sample exam questions, especially exam questions from previous years, to practice, so I am a bit worried and nervous,” Duc shared.
However, the male student said that no matter what obstacles or challenges he faces, he will still try to pass the high school graduation exam - the final milestone of his 12-year journey of high school.
