Nearly 4 years ago, Giat market, located in Trieu Son town, Trieu Son district, was recognized as a food trading market according to TCVN: 11856:2017 standards. According to the representative of the Market Management Board, the Management Board and local authorities had to work very hard and determinedly to achieve these criteria. However, nearly 4 years after being recognized, Giat market has revealed some shortcomings. In particular, the facilities and equipment serving the management and operation of the market have begun to deteriorate. Determining that investment and improvement of facilities cannot be delayed, the local authorities and the Market Management Board have promoted and mobilized traders in the market to join hands in repairing the restrooms, gradually upgrading the dome and the system of kiosks in the market.

Mr. Pham Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Giat town, Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province
Mr. Pham Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Giat town, Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province said: "Every year, we spend a certain amount of money to work with traders and the market management board to upgrade degraded items, for example: upgrading the toilet system, sales area..."

Trieu Son district has 17/17 markets recognized as food trading markets, of which 7 markets meet TCVN 11856:2017 food trading standards and 10 markets are recognized as temporary food trading markets according to the Decision of the Provincial People's Committee. According to the assessment of the Economic Infrastructure Department, Trieu Son District People's Committee, most of the markets that meet the criteria for food trading markets have cleaned the food trading areas and walkways around the stalls; have sufficient equipment to ensure safety and are clean for business; do not use or trade food additives; have books to record contracts, invoices, and documents. At the markets, the food safety management and supervision team is maintained and operates regularly. However, some items, especially the food trading areas in the markets have been degraded and have not been invested in for regular renovation and upgrading; Fee revenue from markets is still low and does not guarantee budget revenue for investment management and upgrading activities at the markets. Therefore, local authorities are focusing on implementing solutions to promptly overcome existing problems so that the criteria for food markets are not reduced.

Mr. Pham The Khoa, Deputy Head of Economic Infrastructure Department, People's Committee of Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province
Mr. Pham The Khoa, Deputy Head of the Economic Infrastructure Department, Trieu Son District People's Committee, Thanh Hoa Province said: "In the long term, it is necessary to call on dedicated investors to transform the market, at that time, the market management will be more professional. For a long time in the district, the Market Management Board has mainly been staffed by the Commune People's Committee, so they cannot be present at the market regularly."

To maintain the criteria of a sustainable food market, in addition to the responsibility of the Market Management Board, regular inspection and supervision by local authorities and related sectors on food hygiene and safety in the market is essential. Along with that is the cooperation of the traders in the market. Only then will the construction of a food market be truly effective, contributing to the development of trade in a civilized, modern direction and protecting the health and interests of consumers.
