Elon Musk reveals his $1.45 billion Bitcoin stash ahead of his IPO.

SpaceX's IPO filing, recently submitted to the US securities regulator, has revealed a shocking detail about its finances: the company holds 18,712 Bitcoin.

According to official documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as of Thursday morning, when the market was trading above $77,000 /BTC, the value of SpaceX's cryptocurrency holdings had surged to approximately $1.45 billion , yielding a paper profit of $789 million .

Data from the records also shows that the Bitcoin was purchased with a total original value of $661 million , equivalent to an average price of approximately $35,000 /BTC at the time of disbursement. The last time Bitcoin maintained a price in the $35,000 range was in November 2023. Prior to that, in August 2023, there were reports that SpaceX had sold off a large portion of its cryptocurrency portfolio, according to Business Insider.

CEO and founder Elon Musk has long been a highly influential figure in the cryptocurrency community. Besides publicly backing the meme coin Dogecoin, the billionaire has also included Bitcoin in Tesla's strategic reserve asset portfolio.

In its first-quarter financial report, Tesla stated that it holds over 11,000 Bitcoins, worth nearly $900 million at current market prices. Earlier in 2025, the electric car manufacturer recorded a surge in quarterly profits thanks to the booming cryptocurrency market, boosting fourth-quarter 2024 revenue by an additional $600 million .

Despite possessing a considerable digital asset portfolio, SpaceX's holdings are still relatively modest compared to other corporate whales. Business analytics giant Strategy Inc. is currently the world's largest public company holding Bitcoin, with over 843,000 BTC, valued at over $64 billion .

Beyond practical financial calculations, Elon Musk has never given up his penchant for stirring up the market with impulsive statements. In 2021, he declared that SpaceX would "send a physical Dogecoin straight to the Moon."

Although this commitment has yet to be fulfilled, SpaceX's space ambitions are becoming increasingly clear, aiming to establish a long-term presence on the Moon. Notably, this S-1 filing also outlines a new, bolder compensation goal specifically for Elon Musk: to establish a human colony on Mars with a "minimum population of one million."
