Since February (lunar calendar) until now, many people have chosen to start building houses, so the demand for construction materials has increased sharply, especially bricks. Supply cannot meet demand, causing the price of these construction materials to increase, and the quantity is not enough to meet the demand, causing some projects to be under construction.

Mr. Tran Van Tuong's family (residential group 12, Cam Xuyen town) started building a house in March 2025. According to the estimate, the 2-storey house needs about 50,000 fired bricks. However, up to this point, Mr. Tuong has only been able to buy a "drop by drop" while the price has increased.
“The price of bricks has increased by at least 300-400 VND/brick compared to before Tet. Roughly calculating, the estimated cost of bricks for the project has increased by about 15-20 million VND. Not only has the price increased, bricks are also very rare, we have to wait a whole week to get them for construction" - Mr. Tuong said.
Surveying construction material stores in Ha Tinh , the prices of many types of fired bricks have been adjusted to increase many times compared to the same period last year. Specifically, compared to before the Lunar New Year 2025, solid brick 10 is currently priced from 1,800-1,900 VND/piece, an increase of 300 VND/piece; solid brick 15 is priced from 2,800-2,900 VND/piece, an increase of 400 VND/piece; 6-hole brick is priced from 3,100-3,200 VND/piece, an increase of 500 VND/piece.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - owner of a construction materials store in Thach Ha town said: "On average, the store sells nearly 100,000 bricks of all kinds every day, nearly double the same period last year. Demand is so high that there are times when the store does not have enough bricks to supply the market. The scarce supply has also caused factories to increase prices. Prices started to increase after Tet and have peaked in the past month."
It is known that the phenomenon of scarcity and "scorching" of construction bricks began after the Lunar New Year. The reason is that in the second half of 2024, the price of construction bricks was stable at a low level, so factories operated at a low level and had no products in reserve. When demand increased sharply, factories could not produce in time while dealers lacked goods to deliver to customers. In addition, investment costs in production fluctuated due to sharp increases in raw land and coal prices.
Mr. Nguyen Van Trung - Head of Product Marketing Department, Thuan Loc Construction Materials Production Joint Stock Company (Thach Ha) said: “It is currently the construction season in Ha Tinh, so the demand for construction materials has increased sharply. Moreover, this year, the number of new construction projects has increased dramatically compared to the same period last year, leading to production not being able to meet customer demand. Like previous years, there are some production facilities in the North that supply construction bricks, meeting part of the people's demand, but due to the impact of storm Yagi , some brick factories here cannot operate, the supply has decreased, so there is not enough supply for the Ha Tinh market".
Faced with the high demand of the market, at this time, Thuan Loc Construction Materials Production Joint Stock Company is operating at maximum capacity, the kilns are burning 24/7 to produce millions of bricks each month. Other units in the area such as tunnel brick factories: Viet Tien and Tan Phu (Thach Ha), Ky Tien (Ky Anh district) ... are also facing the situation of supply not meeting demand.

Mr. Ha Huy Tinh - Director of Cau Ho Brick and Tile Joint Stock Company (Cam Xuyen) said: “At present, the demand for construction bricks of the people is very large but the source of raw materials for production is not available. On the other hand, the price of raw materials such as soil, coal and labor costs have also increased compared to before, causing production costs to increase. Therefore, the high price of bricks is also understandable. Our company at this time has to stop production to study restructuring because the old production line is too outdated, production is often at a loss.”
The situation of burnt bricks being “out of stock” and increasing prices is directly affecting people and construction owners in the area. To minimize the impact, people should consider choosing alternative options such as using unburnt bricks to both save costs and ensure the quality of the project. In addition, authorities need to strengthen market supervision, promptly propose solutions to stabilize prices and ensure supply, limiting the impact on the progress of projects.
