Nearly 10% of subscribers switch from 2G SIM to 4G

On May 29, according to information from the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, implementing the roadmap to turn off 2G waves according to the direction of the Ministry of Information and Communications , from April 2024, the locality will launch a 90-day and night campaign to complete the conversion of 100% of subscribers using SIMs and 2G technology phones to 4G SIMs and phones supporting high-quality 4G technology respectively.

The campaign is divided into 2 phases, of which phase 1 is 30 days and nights (from April 18 to May 17, 2024) and is piloted in 20 communes of 5 districts, towns and cities under the province. Phase 2 is 60 days and nights, from May 18 to July 17, 2024, and is widely deployed throughout the province.

Up to now, the whole Quang Ninh province has had 11,235/118,696 (nearly 10%) subscribers using SIMs and 2G technology phones converted to 4G SIMs and phones supporting high-quality 4G technology respectively. Currently, the locality is focusing on supporting the remaining 107,461 subscribers to make the conversion.

To achieve the goal of no more subscribers using 2G SIMs by September 2024, Quang Ninh province has stepped up propaganda, guided people to make the conversion, and invested in installing additional broadcasting stations.

At the same time, it is recommended that network operators have policies to encourage and support people to switch, such as: Reducing the price of 4G phones, changing 4G SIM cards for free, giving away 15GB of data to experience high-speed internet services .
