Nearly 700 experts, scientists and doctors attended the scientific conference "Amniotic membrane transplantation to treat ocular surface diseases" in Hai Phong.

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of July 20, at the Sheraton Hai Phong Hotel, the 2024 Scientific Conference on "Amniotic Membrane Transplantation for the Treatment of Ocular Surface Diseases" took place.

Attending the Conference were Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Quang, Director of Hai Phong Department of Health ; Associate Professor, Dr. People's Physician Ton Thi Kim Thanh, President of Vietnam Ophthalmology Association; Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Thi Minh Chau, Vice President of Vietnam Ophthalmology Association, President of Cornea Club; scientists, prestigious experts in the field and nearly 700 ophthalmologists from provinces and cities across the country.

This is a prestigious scientific event, held annually, to create opportunities for doctors, experts and researchers in the field of ophthalmology to meet, exchange and update the latest knowledge on corneal diseases and advanced treatment methods.

Speaking at the Conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Quang, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Health, said: Hai Phong is one of the five centrally-run cities. 2023 is the 9th consecutive year that the city has had remarkable economic growth. Along with economic development, the city's leaders always determine that social security must always be one step ahead. The city assigns the health sector the task of developing into a medical center of the Northern Coastal region in the coming time. To achieve that goal, the Hai Phong health sector hopes to receive support from experts and scientists in the field nationwide.

The Director of the Department of Health said that Hai Phong Eye Hospital is one of the city's 7 specialized hospitals. In recent times, the hospital has received investment from the city in terms of facilities, equipment, human resources, etc., creating trust among the people coming to receive medical examination and treatment. In particular, recently, Hai Phong Eye Hospital has successfully performed many corneal transplants, making its mark on the organ transplant map of Vietnam.

The Director of Hai Phong Department of Health hopes that the Cornea Club and the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association will continue to coordinate with Hai Phong Eye Hospital to organize more specialized seminars in Hai Phong city, so that the city's officials and doctors have the opportunity to gain valuable experience, helping the city's ophthalmology sector achieve more outstanding achievements in the future.

The theme of this year's conference is "Amniotic membrane transplantation for the treatment of ocular surface diseases", focusing on the latest advances and applications in amniotic membrane transplantation. High-quality scientific reports from leading experts at home and abroad will be presented, with key topics including: overview of amniotic membrane; indications and techniques of amniotic membrane transplantation; some legal issues related to amniotic membrane collection and preservation; application of amniotic membrane in the treatment of acute Stevens - Johnson syndrome; use of amniotic membrane in the treatment of acute burns; clinical cases of amniotic membrane transplantation for the treatment of Mooren's ulcer; amniotic membrane transplantation for the treatment of difficult-to-heal corneal ulcers; clinical cases of amniotic membrane transplantation for the treatment of perforated corneal ulcers, blepharoconjunctival adhesions; practice of preparing and preserving amniotic membrane, etc.
