Nearly 9,000 households benefit from the project "Greening disaster risk reduction activities"

The project “Greening disaster risk reduction activities” was piloted in 3 communes: Yen Nhan (Thuong Xuan), Yen Son (Ha Trung), Nga Tien (Nga Son). During nearly 2 years of project implementation, 8,846 households benefited. The Project Management Board organized seminars, training sessions, and competitions to promote knowledge and skills in disaster prevention, search and rescue, and practice disaster risk assessment tools that incorporate nature-based solutions for officials and people.

Conference overview.

On the morning of July 28, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society , the Executive Board of the Project "Greening Disaster Risk Reduction Activities", and the Thanh Hoa Provincial Red Cross Society jointly organized an assessment of the results of the project "Greening Disaster Risk Reduction Activities" in Thanh Hoa.

Attending the conference were comrades Tran Si Pha, member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Social Work - Disaster Management Department, Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross; Pham Thi Minh, Chief Representative of the American Red Cross Office in Vietnam; representatives of the Red Cross of Can Tho City and the provinces of Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thai Binh , Quang Binh, Quang Tri; representatives of the leaders of the localities benefiting from the project.

The project "Greening disaster risk reduction activities" was piloted in 3 communes: Yen Nhan (Thuong Xuan), Yen Son (Ha Trung), Nga Tien (Nga Son). During nearly 2 years of project implementation, 8,846 households benefited. The Project Management Board organized seminars, training sessions, and competitions to promote knowledge and skills in disaster prevention, search and rescue, and practice disaster risk assessment tools that incorporate nature-based solutions for officials and people. The 3 communes benefiting from the project have established technical support groups and community groups for officials and people to participate in project activities. Through communication and training activities, the project "Greening disaster risk reduction activities" has contributed to raising awareness, responsibility, and skills of the community in preventing and responding to disasters and natural disaster risks based on nature.

The intervention activities of the Project "Greening disaster risk reduction activities" have contributed to renovating the old Ha Lam Kindergarten into a community shelter; planting trees to prevent landslides along the hillside to protect people's lives and property of Ha Lam Primary School and the community in Binh Lam village (Ha Trung); repairing and upgrading the C3 evacuation route to dike III, planting trees to prevent landslides on both sides of the road and to block wind when storms occur in Nga Tien commune (Nga Son); supporting livelihoods for households in the area implementing the beekeeping development project and providing a smart speaker system applying information technology to serve the work of preventing, combating and warning of natural disaster risks in Yen Nhan commune.

Comrade Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial Red Cross Society, spoke at the conference.

At the conference, delegates discussed, shared experiences and assessed existing limitations in the implementation of the Project "Greening disaster risk reduction activities"; proposed solutions and plans to maintain the effectiveness of the project in the coming time.

On the same afternoon, the organizing committee will conduct a field survey and visit a model of natural disaster risk reduction - planting trees and building storm and flood shelters in Yen Son commune (Ha Trung).
