The Korean luxury car brand has just launched a pair of large luxury cars , the Genesis X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible Concept. Both are based on the flagship G90 sedan, but have only two doors and a completely redesigned exterior. |
The duo bears a resemblance to the X, X Speedium and X Convertible Concepts designed by luxury brand Genesis over the past few years, although they look more production-ready. |
Both all-new Genesis X Gran models feature the brand's familiar Two-Line headlights and stunning 3D front grille, expressing elegance yet majesty. |
Compared to the G90, both the Genesis X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible feature a more raked windshield and a lower hood. The brand’s designers have also widened the fenders, lengthened the side lines, and fitted them with handsome wheels. Dominating the rear bumpers of both concepts are twin LED light bars and rectangular exhaust pipes. |
Both have sumptuous cabins. The Coupe’s interior is inspired by Mediterranean olive trees, with a combination of green and brown leather. Olive leaf motifs stretch across the door panels and feature intricate quilting. |
The interior of the Convertible cabin is even more unique, as it is trimmed in blue, inspired by the color of the grapes used to create Cabernet Sauvignon wine. |
The two concepts use the same basic steering wheel as the current G90, but with an additional spoke at the 6 o'clock position. Genesis hasn't revealed the technical specifications of either model, but since they're based on the G90 platform, both will likely be rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with a longitudinal engine. |
“In the 10 years since its launch, Genesis has dedicated itself to delivering unique value to more than 1.3 million customers worldwide ,” describes Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis. |
“We want to seize this opportunity as a launching pad for a new decade, introducing models that reflect Genesis’ future pursuit of high-performance technology and luxury design,” added Mike Song. |
Song’s statement, as well as the completion of both models, has brought a ray of hope to those who were waiting for the X Gran Coupe and Convertible to be mass produced. However, the company has not made any announcement about plans to produce them, and in fact, this luxury 2-door segment is also difficult to sell. |
Mercedes also had to remove the S-Class Coupe/Convertible from the product line and now, the BMW 8 Series is also rumored to be "killed" after the current generation for the same reason. |
