Genesis X Gran Equator 2025 futuristic design, nostalgic interior

Genesis seemed to steal the show at the 2025 Seoul Mobile Show with two new concepts, the Genesis X Gran Coupe and Convertible, based on the G90. But the Hyundai Group's luxury brand isn't stopping there.

At the 2025 New York Auto Show, Genesis continues to surprise enthusiasts with a completely new concept model called the all-new Genesis X Gran Equator . This is an off-road SUV with a design ahead of its time, combined with a nostalgic interior, marking a bold direction from the Korean brand.

The X Gran Equator is the latest showcase for Genesis's "Athletic Elegance" design language. The SUV rides on 24-inch beadlock wheels wrapped in extra-large off-road tires. This setup provides impressive ground clearance, promising powerful off-road capabilities.

In terms of overall shape, the car has extremely special proportions with a short front end, a long hood and a narrow windshield. The long distance from the front wheels to the hood is reminiscent of classic luxury cars. The lack of a front grille suggests that this could be a pure electric model.

True to the Genesis design, the X Gran Equator is equipped with two parallel LED light bars at both the front and rear of the car. The front bumper integrates LED lights to support night vision while the rear of the car has a minimalist style with a unique split tailgate. The plastic trim details on the car's edge and bumper are delicately designed, increasing the premium feel without reducing the overall luxury.

Unlike the exterior, the interior of the X Gran Equator goes in a completely different direction. The car does not have a central entertainment screen as usual, instead there are 4 round screens in the middle of the dashboard, inspired by classic analog clocks. These screens can customize the display content, accompanied by a 3-ring digital clock in a nostalgic style.

Not stopping there, the car's interior also leans towards mechanical controls. The center console is filled with large mechanical switches, the steering wheel has many integrated buttons and the control lever is also oversized.

The Genesis X Gran Equator SUV features a four-seat interior with swivel front seats, a roof-mounted sunroof, and convenient modular storage compartments. Premium interior materials, combined with striking colors and cross-stitching create a meticulously crafted feel.

Currently, Genesis has not announced the specific specifications of this concept car. Therefore, it is unclear whether the X Gran Equator uses a monocoque or separate chassis platform. Genesis only said that this concept car is "designed to operate in harsh conditions while maintaining natural elegance".-

Genesis also confirmed that the X Gran Equator has not been confirmed for production. However, many design details such as the split tailgate and integrated roof racks could be used in future models of the brand.

This also fits with Genesis’ strategy of expanding into the adventure and outdoor lifestyle segment, and it seems Genesis is aiming to compete with models like the all-electric Mercedes G-Class or even a future zero-emission version of the Land Rover Defender.
