According to The Verge , Generative AI by iStock builds upon Getty's first foray into AI imaging, Generative AI by Getty Images. The difference is that iStock's image platform—a stock photo service owned by Getty—supports individual users rather than Getty Images' multi-user, enterprise-oriented solution.
Generative AI by iStock charges $14.99 per 100 reminders.
Trained using Nvidia's Picasso model, Generative AI by iStock learns only from Getty's creative library and iStock's stock image library. It does not draw training data from Getty's editorial image library to prevent the creation of known trademarks or personalities.
Getty Product Director Grant Farhall said Generative AI by iStock targets small and medium-sized businesses that need to find readily available images. According to Farhall, it allows users to streamline their workflows and obtain the more accurate images they need, even those they couldn't capture with a camera.
Farhall used the example of someone searching for images to illustrate climate change: They might prompt Generative AI by iStock to generate images of penguins walking down the street. Instead of hiring a photographer and finding a flock of penguins, the AI could do it.
The service will charge $14.99 for 100 prompts, with each prompt capable of generating four images. According to Getty Images, contributors whose content is used to train the model can participate in a revenue-sharing program.
Getty spokesperson Alexander Lazarou said that Generative AI by iStock will also soon have Inpainting and Outpainting features. Inpainting allows users to cover an area of an image and then fill it with a person or object from a text prompt. Outpainting, meanwhile, expands the image to different aspect ratios and fills in those new areas.
