Speaking at the session, Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, called for prioritizing education goals. Ms. Botchwey said that Africa should take advantage of the potential of education as a tool to harness the collective power of its people to find solutions to the continent’s challenges, as education promotes critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and creativity.
"These are the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century," Ms. Botchwey asserted, suggesting that Africa should build dynamic education systems to create a solid foundation for the future, ensuring sustainable development and economic growth.
“In today’s digital age, geographic boundaries should not limit access to quality education. We must invest in developing inclusive digital learning platforms,” Ms. Botchwey emphasized.
She called for inclusiveness to be at the heart of the continent's education policies and for promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education for girls as a key tool to achieve gender equality in society.
