Visit Forillon National Park

Forillon National Park, on the outskirts of Gaspé, is located on a piece of land called “Land's End”, which means “the last cape”. This is where the Chic-Choc Mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean.

The most notable destination in Forillon Park is Cape Gaspé, the tip of the peninsula of the same name. Words can hardly describe the beauty and loneliness of Cape Gaspé, only when visitors stand on the cape and look out to sea can they fully feel it. Not far from Cape Gaspé is the Percé rock, shaped like a ship breaking through the waves. Percé is famous for being the world's largest dome-shaped standing rock in the sea. Archaeologists have found the bones of 150 different animal species on the rock, and today the place is still full of life every season when the northern osprey nests and lays eggs. The French poet André Breton (1896 - 1966) was moved by the scene and wrote that the Percé rock is "a song of hope, renewal and rebirth".

If you want to find a high point to admire Forillon Park, there are three options. The first is the Cape Gaspé Lighthouse. The lighthouse's lighting system is completely automatic and relies on solar panels. The second high point is the Mont-Saint-Alban observation tower located on Mount Saint Alban. The third high point is the ruins of Fort Ramsay. The fort was inaugurated in 1942 to protect Canada from attacks by Nazi submarines. Many British warships were also stationed at Ramsay during World War II. After admiring a corner of the Canadian sky and sea from the top of the fort, visitors should go down to visit the complex network of tunnels of this structure. The area in front of the fort has a beautiful view and is often visited by tourists for picnics.

Forillon Park is also a popular diving spot. The Atlantic waters will challenge even experienced divers. On the other hand, the underwater scenery here is also extremely interesting. Visitors can spend a whole week just swimming with whales, dolphins or seals weaving between the sea mountains. From October to December, you can also dive for lobsters. After a day of diving, visitors can light a fire on the beach to grill the lobsters they caught with their own hands.
