Faced with concerns about reciprocal taxes from the US, Vietnamese pepper exporters remain cautious, while the industry hopes to expand the Chinese market to reduce pressure.
Mr. Le Viet Anh, Chief of Office of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), said that export enterprises are not too worried yet, because the US is still almost entirely dependent on pepper imports, of which 60-70% comes from Vietnam. According to him, the final reciprocal tax rate may not be too high, and the US market will still be an important destination.
China is a large potential market that the industry needs to focus on exploiting more systematically. With a consumption demand of 90,000 - 100,000 tons per year, while domestic production can only meet about 20,000 - 30,000 tons, China still has to import 60,000 - 70,000 tons/year. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese pepper to expand its market share and improve its position in the international market.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market decreased slightly on two floors:
Robusta Coffee (London):
Delivery in July 2025: Down 20 USD/ton, to 4,014 USD/ton.
Delivery September 2025: Down 25 USD/ton, to 3,862 USD/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):
July 2025 delivery: Down 1.9 cents/lb, to 320.4 cents/lb.
September 2025 delivery: Down 2.25 cents/lb, to 315.55 cents/lb.
The London coffee market maintained a moderate pace of trading in the absence of leading momentum from New York, which was closed for the Juneteenth holiday. On the same day, many major coffee-producing countries, including Brazil, were also closed for the Corpus Christi holiday, keeping international trading generally quiet.
The world’s largest coffee cooperative, Cooxupé, said that as of June 13, only 17.8% of its 2025 arabica crop had been harvested, or about 1.09 million bags out of a projected total of 6.1 million bags. This is much lower than the same period in 2024 when it reached 26.6%, indicating slow harvest progress due to unfavorable weather.
In terms of inventory, as of June 18, the amount of certified washed Arabica coffee stored on the New York Stock Exchange reached 861,143 bags, up slightly by 4.45% compared to the same period last year. However, compared to the beginning of 2025, this figure is still down more than 10%, showing that the supply pressure has not really been relieved.
