The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts that Vietnam’s coffee output in the next crop year, starting in October 2025, will increase to 31 million bags, including 30 million bags of Robusta and 1 million bags of Arabica, equivalent to 1.86 million tons – up from 1.74 million tons in the current crop. Exports are expected to reach 27 million bags, while domestic consumption will also increase sharply from 4 million to 4.9 million bags.
Although Robusta coffee prices have decreased, the domestic decline is still lower than the decline in the international market. In the futures market, the price of coffee for long-term delivery has decreased more than the price of coffee for short-term delivery, showing that investors expect prices to continue to decrease in the future.
In particular, after November is the time when Vietnam enters the main harvest season, so the supply will be abundant. Experts also believe that within the next 5 years, Brazil's Robusta coffee output could reach 30 million bags, surpassing Vietnam, the country currently leading the world in Robusta exports.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market decreased slightly on two floors:
Robusta Coffee (London):
Delivery in July 2025: Down 22 USD/ton, to 4,570 USD/ton.
Delivery September 2025: Down 28 USD/ton, to 4,538 USD/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):
July 2025 delivery: Down 3 cents/lb, to 348.95 cents/lb.
September 2025 delivery: Down 3.7 cents/lb, to 346.15 cents/lb.
According to Reuters, the 2025 arabica coffee harvest in Brazil is starting with mixed opinions. On the one hand, actual field operations confirm forecasts that this is a bad year in the biennial cycle, so the expected yield is lower. On the other hand, coffee bean size is noted to have improved significantly.
In the Cerrado Mineiro region, where only about 4% of the harvest has been completed, 30-40% of the beans are screened at 17-18, which is almost the largest size, according to Wellis Caixeta, coffee buyer at the Expocacer cooperative. These large beans would easily fill the 60kg bags of coffee that are internationally traded.
Mr Caixeta said the quality of beans this year was superior to previous years, which could be a sign that the actual yield will be higher than expected. However, overall yields are still low, in line with forecasts for a cyclically poor year for arabica, said Jonas Ferraresso, an agronomist who advises Brazilian farmers.
