November is the peak harvest season for Vietnamese Robusta coffee, but the price of coffee for delivery in this period has reached a peak, exceeding $5,000 per ton.
On September 12th (local time), Robusta coffee futures for November delivery reached an average price of $5,077 per ton on the London exchange (UK), an increase of $69 per ton compared to the previous day; the highest price recorded was $5,115 per ton, an increase of $107 per ton.
For the January 2025 delivery contract, Robusta coffee prices also rose to a fairly high level of 4,816 USD/ton.
Currently, the local price of bulk coffee is at 125,000 - 130,000 VND/kg, relatively stable over the past period. Compared to the "peak" price at the end of April, the domestic coffee price is still 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg lower.
According to some farmers and businesses, rain is currently occurring frequently in the Central Highlands, with some areas experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall; furthermore, weather reports also predict that the rain may continue throughout September.
Heavy rains have prolonged the ripening time of coffee beans and made harvesting difficult. This could cause the coffee harvest to start later than usual, around the beginning of October.
Similar to Vietnam, in India's coffee-growing regions, rainfall is also increasing compared to the multi-year average. The country's Robusta coffee harvest will begin around November this year. Due to the drought earlier this year, production is forecast to decrease by about 5-7% to approximately 360,000 tons.
