Fresh coconut prices have dropped sharply. |
According to records, compared to more than a month ago, the price of fresh coconuts in the province has decreased by about half. Currently, fresh coconuts purchased by traders in the garden are priced from 45,000 - 60,000 VND/dozen (depending on the type).
The family of Ms. Le Thi Thu Van (Binh Thuan Hamlet, Cho Gao Commune) grows 3 hectares of Malay coconuts about 8 years old. Ms. Van said: “A few months ago, I sold coconuts for 110,000 - 130,000 VND/dozen, depending on the batch. A month and a half ago, I sold coconuts for 110,000 VND/dozen. However, the current price of coconuts has decreased by about half. The price has decreased, but the good thing is that the coconut yield is higher than in the hot months.”
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu, a coconut trader in Cho Gao commune, the reason for the decrease in coconut prices is because it is the rainy season, the output is high and the export price of coconuts has dropped sharply. With this price, the gardeners still make a profit.
Coconut prices are rising again. |
In contrast to the price of fresh coconuts, in recent days, the price of dried coconuts in the province has increased sharply again after a period of price reduction. Mr. Duong Tan Si's family (Tan Thoi commune, Tan Phu Dong district) has 1.1 hectares of coconuts.
According to Mr. Si, about 10 days ago, the price of dried coconuts in the area was at 160,000 VND/dozen of 14 fruits. Currently, the price of dried coconuts has increased again and is at 220,000 VND/dozen, almost equal to the record price (240,000 VND/dozen) a few months ago. With this price, farmers have high profits.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, the whole province currently has over 24,000 hectares of coconut, with an output of over 363,000 tons/year.
