Pig price today October 24:

* Pig price in the Northern region

On the morning of October 24, the market for live pigs in the North decreased slightly in Hanoi and Yen Bai , reaching prices of 63,000 VND/kg and 62,000 VND/kg, respectively.

Currently, only two provinces, Hung Yen and Hai Duong, maintain transactions at 64,000 VND/kg, which is also the highest price in the country.

*Pig price in the Central Highlands region

Pig prices in the Central Highlands region have plummeted in most provinces and cities.

Accordingly, Dak Lak , Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa are all trading at 59,000 VND/kg, the lowest in the country. The remaining localities are currently purchasing live pigs at around 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

*Pig price in the Southern region

In the Southern region, prices fell slightly in Tay Ninh, An Giang, Can Tho, Ca Mau, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Bac Lieu. Southern traders are purchasing live pigs at around 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

Of which, Ben Tre is the only province that recorded the price of 60,000 VND/kg, the lowest in the region. Higher by one price, An Giang and Bac Lieu both sold at 61,000 VND/kg.

* Global pork production forecast to drop to 115.1 million tonnes in 2025

Global pork production in 2025 is forecast to decline by 1% to 115.1 million tonnes as lower output in China and the European Union offsets increases in the United States, Vietnam and Brazil.

Vietnam’s pork output is expected to rise 3% to 3.8 million tonnes on an expected expansion of the hog herd as the industry develops and African swine fever (ASF) management improves. Brazil’s pork output is expected to rise 1% to 4.6 million tonnes on strong export demand and lower input costs.

Despite rising industry profits in 2024, China’s pork production in 2025 is expected to decline by 2% to 55.5 million tonnes. The expected decline in sows in 2024 will result in a decline in pigs available for slaughter in 2025. In addition, China’s pork demand is expected to remain weak due to continued economic uncertainty and growing consumer preference for poultry. European Union pork production is expected to decline by 2% to 20.9 million tonnes due to expected lower pig prices.
