According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper , on June 18, the Veterinary Department of Region VII (Can Tho) announced the official conclusion on the pig test samples taken by the functional forces of Bac Lieu province in Vinh Phu Tay commune, Phuoc Long district.
Accordingly, viscera samples taken from the illegally transported pigs of Mr. Vo Trung Kien (born in 1999, residing in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City) tested positive for the virus that causes African swine fever (ASFV) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) North American strain (NA).
Earlier, in the early morning of June 14, the inspection team of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province coordinated with the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Phuoc Long district to inspect a truck with license plate 94H-004.27 in Phuoc 2 hamlet, Vinh Phu Tay commune (Phuoc Long district) and discovered that it was transporting 120 pigs without quarantine certificates as prescribed. Mr. Kien confessed that he was transporting pigs from Can Tho to Bac Lieu for consumption.
Immediately afterwards, the authorities detained the entire herd of pigs, took samples for testing and monitored the disease for 7 days. With the positive results for the two dangerous infectious diseases mentioned above, according to regulations, the authorities of Bac Lieu province will decide to destroy all 120 pigs to prevent the risk of spreading the disease, at the same time impose administrative fines and force the owner to commit not to repeat the offense.
The Inspectorate of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province continues to coordinate with specialized agencies to handle the case in accordance with legal regulations.
