More than 5 tons of pigs were destroyed after African swine fever was detected in Son La.
According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, more than 50 pigs owned by Mr. Ca Van Tong, residing in Chieng Sinh ward, Son La province, had to be destroyed due to African swine fever, causing damage of about 200 million VND to the household owner.
On July 20, an interdisciplinary working group including officers from the Department of Economic - Urban Infrastructure, police, militia and self-defense forces, and the XII Agricultural Technical Center coordinated to destroy more than 5 tons of infected pigs in Muong village, Chieng Sinh ward, where Mr. Tong is the owner.
Three days earlier, Mr. Tong discovered that three sows were not eating or drinking, and on the third day one died, showing signs of suspected African swine fever. The very next morning, Chieng Sinh Ward sent a team to inspect, take samples for testing, and destroy the dead pigs to prevent the disease from spreading, especially since this could be the third outbreak in the area.
By the evening of July 18, the XII Agricultural Technical Center confirmed the positive test results for African swine fever, and notified the family and ward authorities to implement measures to control the epidemic and destroy the infected pigs.
