Responding to new risks with biosecurity solutions
According to Vietnam Livestock Magazine , Vietnam's livestock industry has achieved great achievements in terms of scale and productivity, however, it also faces significant challenges from environmental pollution caused by waste, requiring synchronous solutions from policy institutions, science and technology, finance, etc.
That was the message stated at the workshop "Updating waste treatment technology in livestock farming" held on July 3, 2025 at Hai Thinh Nutrition Joint Stock Company (Bac Ninh), with the participation of experts, businesses and livestock farmers in the area.
Mr. Vu Tan Phu, Chairman of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Bac Ninh province, said that the province currently has more than 1,300 livestock farms, of which 10% apply high technology. The total livestock herd is developing steadily, with about 1.2 million pigs and 25 million poultry. Production value increases by nearly 3% each year, making Bac Ninh a strongly developed livestock province.
Mr. Vu Tan Phu frankly pointed out many shortcomings in environmental protection in livestock farming. Small-scale models are still common, making it difficult to control diseases and apply modern technology. Many households lack waste treatment systems, leading to local pollution. Concentrated livestock farming also lacks a synchronous biosafety process, increasing the risk of disease spread. Current treatment systems are outdated, limited land funds and inadequate investment in livestock farming infrastructure are also major barriers.
Realizing the importance of technology, experts have introduced many advanced solutions to turn livestock waste from a burden into a resource.
