African swine fever spreads in Quang Tri, farmers are miserable
According to a report from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, African swine fever has appeared in 6 communes in the province with the risk of an increasingly serious outbreak. Functional agencies and local authorities are actively implementing solutions to control and prevent the spread of the disease.
Since May 28, the disease has occurred in 21 villages in Kim Phu, Tan Thanh, Phong Nha, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh and Dong Le communes. The total number of pigs destroyed is up to 451, equivalent to nearly 28 tons. Of which, Phong Nha commune is the most affected with 247 pigs in 37 households in 9 villages destroyed, at the same time the disease here is tending to spread rapidly.
Mr. Tran Cong Tam, Head of the Quang Tri Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, said that as soon as the epidemic was detected, relevant units coordinated to announce the epidemic and conduct disinfection spraying in epidemic areas and high-risk areas to limit the spread.
In addition, the Department recommends that people closely monitor the disease situation, promptly report cases of pigs showing signs of illness or unusual deaths, and avoid self-treating or selling off sick pigs. Preventive measures at small farms are also required to be strictly implemented.
In particular, Livestock and Veterinary Stations in the area are directed to strengthen monitoring, inspection and guidance for people to apply biosafety measures. Farmers are also advised not to increase or restore herds without ensuring safety conditions, in order to minimize economic losses caused by epidemics.
