Pig price today 10/9

* Pig prices in the Northern region remain stable at a low level.

Specifically, the two provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai both traded at 51,000 VND/kg - the lowest in the region.

Other provinces and cities buy live pigs at prices ranging from 52,000 VND/kg to 53,000 VND/kg.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 51,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.

* The pig market in the Central and Central Highlands regions recorded no new fluctuations.

Accordingly, traders in Dak Lak province continued to trade at 51,000 VND/kg.

The remaining provinces continue to purchase at prices ranging from 52,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.

Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 51,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the South have not recorded any new fluctuations.

In detail, 50,000 VND/kg is the lowest transaction price in the region, continuing to be recorded in Ben Tre province.

51,000 - 54,000 VND/kg is the price range recorded in the remaining localities.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is between 50,000 - 54,000 VND/kg.

* A representative of the Dong Nai Livestock Association said that the general lack of surplus supply was the reason for the drop in live pig prices. However, in a short period of time, farmers feared that the disease would become more complicated, so they broke up their herds and sold them off. Pigs that were not yet of sufficient weight were sold in large numbers, making the prices even cheaper.

At the same time, before the trend of decreasing pork prices, some large businesses and farms had the mentality of waiting for prices to increase. Accordingly, pigs that were ready to be sold were still kept. Now, the large weight is forced to be sold. This type of pig is classified as overweight, and the price is also cheaper than the market price.

"Everyone wants to sell quickly, the market cannot absorb everything so the price drops even more," he said.

According to the representative of Dong Nai Livestock Association, the cost of raising pigs is made up of 4 factors: feed price, reproductive performance, farming productivity and waste. If not considering the impact of African swine fever, the cost of raising pigs is at 55,000-57,000 VND/kg. Compared to the current selling price, pig farmers suffer a loss of about 400,000-500,000 VND/kg.

It will be until the end of October that the price of live pigs can recover. But there is a high possibility that the supply of this item will be in short supply by the end of this year. Because, not only people but also large farms and livestock enterprises are affected by African swine fever.
