In the world market, rice prices in major exporting countries continued to increase slightly by 1 to 2 USD/ton compared to the previous day. In Vietnam, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 5% broken rice today increased by 1 USD/ton, to 398 USD/ton. 100% broken rice is currently at 323 USD/ton, and 25% broken rice is at 368 USD/ton.

In Thailand, the price of 5% broken rice increased by 2 USD/ton to 407 USD/ton, becoming the highest level on the market today. The same type of rice from India and Pakistan was also adjusted up, to 382 and 389 USD/ton, respectively.
VFA said that the global average White Oryza Rice Price Index (WRI) ended the week of May 2 at 447 USD/ton, up slightly from the previous week. However, this level was still 5 USD/ton lower than the previous month and down 199 USD/ton compared to the same period last year.
Global rice prices are recovering from a two-year low, as declining stocks in major exporters such as Thailand and Pakistan have led to price increases across the board. Vietnam has also adjusted its prices higher due to limited supply caused by saltwater intrusion.
In India, the domestic market may come under short-term pressure as Chhattisgarh state prepares to sell 3.5 million tonnes of rice.
According to the FAO's April 2025 report, global rice production this year is expected to reach a record 543.3 million tons, thanks to increased output in India, China, Cambodia and Tanzania, although some countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia and Myanmar will see declines.
Global rice consumption is forecast to increase by 2.1% to around 539 million tonnes, driven largely by food demand and ethanol production in India. Global stocks are forecast to reach 205.9 million tonnes, up 3.2% year-on-year, reflecting stockpiling trends in both importing and exporting countries.
