Fresh rice prices increase slightly, transactions remain sluggish in many localities
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, rice prices today continued to increase slightly. Nang Hoa 9 rice increased by 200 VND, ranging from 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice increased by 100 VND, reaching 6,100 - 6,200 VND/kg. Other varieties such as OM 18, OM 5451, IR 50404 and OM 308 remained stable at 5,700 - 6,200 VND/kg depending on the type.
Despite the increase in prices, transactions are still slow in the provinces. In An Giang and Dong Thap, many farmers are offering fixed prices, while traders are asking for purchases infrequently. The same situation is happening in Hau Giang , Tay Ninh and Kien Giang, where the summer-autumn rice crop is entering harvest but the market has not yet become active again.
Raw rice prices are stable, retail rice prices decrease in the popular segment
Raw rice prices in localities were generally stable, except for OM 18, which increased slightly by VND100 to VND9,500-9,600/kg. Other varieties such as IR 504, CL 555, OM 380 and OM 5451 ranged from VND7,700-9,150/kg. Finished rice OM 380 and IR 504 remained at VND8,800-9,700/kg.
At the traditional market, regular rice has dropped sharply by VND1,000 to VND13,000-14,000/kg. High-quality rice such as Nang Nhen (VND28,000/kg), Huong Lai, Nang Hoa, Jasmine, Thai and Japanese rice remain stable at around VND16,000-28,000/kg.
By-product prices slightly adjusted, glutinous rice segment remains unchanged
By-product prices tended to decrease slightly on July 9. Fragrant rice husks decreased by VND100, currently fluctuating between VND7,300 - 7,400/kg. Meanwhile, bran remained at VND8,100 - 8,250/kg, rice husks at VND1,000 - 1,150/kg. The glutinous rice segment kept prices unchanged: dry IR 4625 glutinous rice at VND9,500 - 9,700/kg, fresh glutinous rice at VND7,300 - 7,500/kg.
Vietnam's rice exports remain stable, Korean market continues to increase prices
Vietnam's rice export prices remained unchanged from the end of the week. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 5% broken rice was at $382 per ton, equal to Thailand, $2 higher than India and $4 lower than Pakistan. 25% broken rice remained at $357 per ton, and 100% broken rice at $317 per ton.
Meanwhile, the South Korean market recorded domestic rice prices increasing by more than 13% compared to the multi-year average. The reason was due to a sharp decrease in output due to hot weather, causing inventories to fall to 712,000 tons - the lowest level since 2021.
Summary
On July 9, the domestic rice market continued to be divided. Fresh rice prices increased slightly due to limited supply, while raw rice prices remained stable and the popular segment in the market decreased. By-products adjusted slightly, while glutinous rice prices remained stable. In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remained stable, but signs of supply shortages from Asian countries may create room for growth in the coming time.
