Domestic durian price
According to records on June 13, the price of durian sold at the garden in Can Tho City has decreased sharply compared to the beginning of the month. Specifically, the beautiful RI6 durian is currently being purchased by traders at a price of 32,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg lower than two weeks ago.
Durian prices in Can Tho City continue to cool down, 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg lower than 2 weeks ago.
Lower quality durians, such as those with many seeds or worms, are priced below VND20,000/kg. Meanwhile, Mon Thong durians – which are usually more valuable – remain relatively good, ranging from VND55,000 to VND60,000/kg.
People said that the price decrease mainly comes from the strong increase in supply during the peak harvest season, while consumption from the export market is not as expected.
Prices in the regions are unchanged, the East is still higher than the West
According to data from chogia.vn, the prices of RI6 and Thai durian in regions across the country have barely changed compared to the previous day.
In the Southwest region, selected beautiful RI6 durian: 50,000 - 60,000 VND/kg. RI6 in bucket: 37,000 - 43,000 VND/kg. Selected beautiful Thai durian: 70,000 - 95,000 VND/kg. Thai in bucket: 57,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region: Beautiful selected RI6: 51,000 - 52,000 VND/kg. RI6 in bucket: 35,000 - 37,000 VND/kg. Beautiful selected Thai: 80,000 - 83,000 VND/kg. Thai in bucket: 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands: RI6 beautiful selection: 50,000 - 53,000 VND/kg. RI6 in bucket: 35,000 - 38,000 VND/kg. Thai beautiful selection: 77,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. Thai in bucket: 57,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.
Thus, Thai durian is still priced higher than RI6 in most regions, especially carefully selected, beautiful products.
World durian price
While Vietnam is struggling to find export outlets, Thailand – Asia’s leading durian exporter – has launched several campaigns to stimulate domestic consumption. According to the Bangkok Post, the Department of Internal Trade of Thailand (DIT) in collaboration with the Fresh Market Association has launched the Thailand Fruit Festival 2025, aiming to distribute more than 50 tons of fruit per day at 13 major markets in Bangkok and its suburbs.
According to Mr. Goranij Nonejuie – Deputy Director of DIT – the goal of this campaign is to balance export and domestic consumption, helping to maintain stable fruit prices during the peak harvest season.
In particular, the "golden minute" program selling quality durian at preferential prices from only 99 baht/fruit has attracted great attention from the people. In addition, promotional activities for premium fruits are also planned at major shopping malls and shopping areas in Bangkok, lasting until August 2025.
The stability of durian prices in Thailand shows the importance of properly regulating output and distribution channels. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, a large amount of durian is entering the harvest season in the western provinces, causing the output price at the garden to decrease sharply.
Experts say that to avoid the current price drop, there needs to be a close connection between farmers, cooperatives and purchasing and processing enterprises. At the same time, expanding export markets, diversifying consumption channels and building a sustainable value chain are inevitable directions if we want to stabilize income for durian growers.
