Durian price today August 21: Thai durian price increases dramatically

On August 21, the price of Thai durian in many regions reached 100,000 VND/kg, while Ri6 remained unchanged. Durian exports continued to grow strongly.

Domestic durian price

On August 21, the durian market recorded a sharp increase in Thai durian, with many places reaching the 100,000 VND/kg mark. Ri6 durian remained unchanged in price, with no significant fluctuations.

In the Southeast, Thai durian grade A ranges from 78,000 to 84,000 VND/kg, VIP grade up to 95,000 VND/kg. In the Central Highlands, the price is higher, grade A from 80,000 to 86,000 VND/kg, VIP grade reaches 100,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Ri6 durian is still around 40,000 to 45,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Export market

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports are clearly recovering after a difficult period, with durian being the biggest driver. In July alone, durian export turnover is estimated at 350-400 million USD, bringing the total for the first 7 months to over 1 billion USD.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, with abundant output lasting until November, the export target of 7.6 billion USD this year is completely achievable, even approaching 8 billion USD.

Reasons for price increase

Over the past week, the price of Monthong durian has increased by 15-20% compared to last month. This recovery is thanks to strict quality control measures and tightening of export procedures since June. The Ri6 variety in particular has not fluctuated significantly, keeping prices stable.
