Musang King durian prices drop due to unstable quality, exports exceed $1 billion
While the price of Thai durian and Ri6 in many growing areas is increasing again, the price of Musang King durian is cooling down due to the impact of water and salt. This situation is common in some gardens in the Central Highlands, where the main harvest is entering.
In Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc and Dak Lak, the price of Musang King grade A fluctuates between 58,000 and 63,000 VND/kg. However, only batches with uniform ripeness, yellow segments, firm flesh and no hard texture are accepted for purchase by large warehouses. Fruits with slight defects or substandard are almost not traded on the market.
Despite the pressure on Musang King prices due to quality issues, the Vietnamese durian industry still recorded a positive milestone. By the end of July 2025, total durian export turnover had officially exceeded 1 billion USD. This result came from many favorable factors, including Thailand's difficulties in harvesting due to prolonged rains, causing supply disruptions to China.
China – the largest export market for Vietnamese durian – is increasing imports to make up for the shortage. In addition, its geographical advantage helps Vietnam shorten transportation time, preserving the freshness of the product when it reaches the distributor. Many farmers and cooperatives have invested systematically in cultivation processes and pesticide residue control, which also helps Vietnamese durian increasingly meet strict standards.
Many businesses said that orders to China remain stable, especially with recognized growing area codes. With the harvest season in the Southeast and Central Highlands at its peak, the market expects durian prices to remain stable, and may even increase slightly if the quality of goods improves in the coming weeks.
