On the morning of August 5, EVN Hanoi confirmed that there was no scheduled power outage during the period of extreme heat. The power unit said that all planned power outages had been postponed. All maintenance and repair work had been rescheduled, except for special cases that posed a risk of causing an incident and required to be carried out to ensure the safe operation of the power system.
According to Dan Tri reporters on the morning of August 5, some areas in central wards of Hanoi still had power outages according to the plan announced on the application of EVN Hanoi.
Specifically, at 10am, households in alley 188, alley 212 Khuong Dinh street, from house number 188 to house number 236 Khuong Dinh street (Khuong Dinh ward) all recorded power outages. According to the plan, this area had power outages from 8:45am to 11:30am.
Ms. Thuc Anh, who lives at No. 3, Alley 188 Khuong Dinh, said her house lost power at around 8am. "I was washing vegetables when the power went out. I hadn't had time to cook the rice yet, and the clothes in the washing machine hadn't had time to dry," she said. Meanwhile, some other households living in Alley 188 Khuong Dinh also confirmed that the power went out at around 8am, but they said they had received information about the power outage on the morning of August 5.

At a transformer station on Khuong Dinh Street, about 4 electricity workers were checking the equipment. One worker confirmed that the power outage in this area was carried out according to a pre-planned plan, and that power would be restored soon after the inspection.
Similarly, at houses 2 to 16, lane 222 Le Duan and house B5, lane 16/222 Le Duan (Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward), at 10:30 a.m. on August 5, there was also a power outage according to the power cut plan from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some households had to use generators or rechargeable fans to cope.
Ms. Bay, a vendor in alley 222 Le Duan, said that when she came to set up shop at 6am, the electricity was still on, but after 7am, the area lost power and it lasted until 10am. "I was so busy selling that I didn't notice exactly when it went out. There hasn't been a fan since this morning. Luckily, today is less hot than yesterday," she said.
At a transformer station in lane 222 Le Duan, electricity workers are also performing maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure safe and stable operation in conditions of increased load due to hot weather.

However, some areas that were scheduled to have power outages for routine maintenance and repairs were postponed on the morning of August 5. For example, on the morning of August 5, houses from 146 to 202 on Khuong Thuong Street, Lane 554 Truong Chinh (Kim Lien Ward) were scheduled to have power outages from 8am to 4pm. However, by 10am, the area was still receiving normal power.
Similarly, part of residential groups 6,7 Phu Luong ward; part of residential groups 4,5 Kien Hung ward planned to cut off electricity from 5am to 1pm but was postponed. Part of Son Tay ward planned to cut off electricity from 6am to 1pm but was also postponed...
EVN Hanoi said it has increased on-site inspections and promptly handled incidents at risk; arranged 24/7 staff at transformer stations and control centers; and strengthened contingency plans to respond quickly to situations that arise during peak hot weather.
The power unit said that the prolonged hot weather poses a risk of power grid problems because many electrical devices operate outdoors in high temperature environments; some power lines and transformer stations are overloaded at certain times.
EVN Hanoi recommends that customers, offices and production facilities join hands to use electricity economically and effectively, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment and limit the use of high-capacity equipment during peak electricity consumption hours (12-15h and 22-24h) every day.
People should also pay attention to using air conditioners properly (set at 26 degrees Celsius or higher, use in combination with fans). In addition, using energy-saving labeled devices and regularly maintaining air conditioners and refrigerators are also effective ways to reduce electricity consumption.
