Steel prices on the exchange
Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for May 2025 delivery rose 44 yuan to 3,390 yuan/t.
Iron ore futures rose, supported by lower shipments from a major producer and growing expectations for further interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve following weaker-than-expected inflation data.
The most-traded May iron ore contract on China’s Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) rose 0.64 percent to 787 yuan ($107.35) a tonne, having hit 792 yuan earlier in the session, its highest since Dec. 18.
Benchmark iron ore for February delivery on the Singapore Exchange traded 0.43% higher at $101 a tonne. It hit its highest since Jan. 1 at $101.90 earlier in the day.
Other steelmaking components on the DCE rose, with coking coal and coke up 1.52% and 1.65% respectively.
Most steel benchmarks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange rose. Rebar rose 0.33%, hot-rolled coil rose 0.44%, stainless steel rose 0.11%, while steel bars fell 0.25%.
