Rice export prices increased sharply this week
Export rice prices from world sources have fluctuated sharply upward this week.
According to data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), in the week from November 27 to December 2, rice prices from world suppliers including Vietnam, Thailand, and Pakistan have made strong adjustments.
Specifically, after a long period of stable price at 658-662 USD/ton, Vietnam's 5% broken rice increased slightly by 5 USD this week, to 663-667 USD/ton - and is the highest price among exporting countries.

Regarding the reason for the sharp increase in rice prices this week, according to VFA, many countries currently have a large import demand. Specifically, Brazil has reached an agreement to buy 60,000 tons of rice from Thailand. Or the Philippines recently asked traders to buy an additional 1 million tons of rice within 1 month to increase domestic supply. If traders do not import large quantities within 30 days, they will be blacklisted.
Another country, East Timor, has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade with the Cambodian Government to import about 4,000 tonnes of rice from Cambodia; Sri Lanka has approved the import of Keeri Samba rice to address inadequate supply.
The second reason for the upward pressure on world rice prices is that the world's largest rice exporter, India, has not yet eased its ban on exporting common white rice until the end of 2024.
